That's not fate, sir... that's tomfoolery

I dream in Technicolor brilliance. I always have. I also dream in mini (maxi) series. Like I will start a dream and a few nights, months, years later - that dream picks back up where I left off like there's a DVR in my brain. I have one dream involving a black sandy beach and an amusement park that has been running since I was ten years of age. My late great father often visits in dreams. He's either laughing, lecturing or just looking at me with confusion on his face.

Sometimes I think my dreams are trying to tell me something. Sometimes I double check what I had on the TV before I went to sleep. And I cannot eat spicy food too close to bedtime - if I do I dream myself into chase scenes and shoot outs and wake up exhausted. I know I'm "special" I'm okay with it.

When my sister and I went to Maui, we landed and there was a rainbow. When we took off five days later, there was also a rainbow. In almost the exact same spot. I decided it was a positive sign. (And not just refracted water in the sky)

How  much do you believe that dreams are prophecy? How much do you believe that a being from on high talks to you or sends you signs? I go back and forth on these things. I do believe in signs and higher powers but then I also believe in free will and responsible thought.

The gentleman who wrote to me goes all in and then some. Read his story and weigh in.
Hey Ms. Michele,
I read your blog and wonder what you think about this. I've been married for five years and have two young boys. But recently I left my wife. I had been having a dream about a woman (not my wife) for months. The dreams were so clear and beautiful, it was like I was living a different life when I was asleep than the one I was living when I was awake. About a year ago, I truly started feeling as though Jesus (or somebody like him) was trying to tell me something. A few months later I actually met the woman that was in my dreams. It was like meeting an old friend. She said she felt the same about me. Even though she's sixteen years younger than me (I'm 40) we are soulmates. We are now together and people think we are crazy but when fate shows you the hand, you have to play the cards. Don't you think?
-Perry in Decatur
**crickets**
Um. Okay. I'm so sorry, Perry. I have to call bullshiggity. In my heart of hearts  I believe you saw this woman out of the corner of your eye somewhere and wove her into your midnight fantasy. When given the opportunity, you made your fantasy come true. You left your wife and kids to get a little tenderoni because a dream told you to?! I can NOT even cosign on this tomfoolery. Did you write in for validation? I'm so not here for that. But do have your ex (soon to be ex?) write in so we can chit and chat with her. I weep for the example you set for your boys. Oh and "Jesus or someone like him" - what does that even mean!!!??? Man, please.

BougieLand. Two separate issues here. Answer the poll and riddle me this - do you believe that things can be revealed to you in dreams? Do you believe any of what Perry just said? Have you ever done something (or decided not to do something) based on a dream, a sign or a gut feeling? What do you have to say to Perry? Do share...

It's one thing to think with the brain in your "little head", but to dream with it and then act on those dreams?

Do not have children with this new woman.

Sometimes our dreams are trying to tell us that we are entirely too gullible, incapable of fidelity, and with all the impulse control and thought for consequences of the average two-year-old faced with a surfeit of candy. Or maybe that's just Perry's dreams, huh?

Seriously, though. It's bad enough when people blame the devil for making them do it. Now it's Jesus or somebody like him? Somebody needs to go sit in Sunday School with the babies and actually listen this time.

It is too early and I am too sleepy for this shiggity!!! Somebody get your cousin! "Jesus or somebody like him", man ....Ain't nobody got time for that! Y'all gonna STOP using my Lord and Savior to justify y'all heauxnanigans!!!

geraldine, "the devil made me do it!" .....maaan, bye!

i think dreams try and tell us something sometimes....i had a good friend pass away; i told his family that i would make them quilts out of his clothing. needless to say i can be a bit of a procrastinator. ok big time procrastinator  which is  something my friend knew all to well. i kid you not i had his clothes for about a month when i started having dreams about him. i had a dream about him every night until i started working on the quilts. i would take breaks and if the breaks lasted longer thank a week i would start dreaming about him again. they were good dreams, but they bothered me at the same time until i realized he was tell me to get my *beep* together and get to sewing.  :-)

I'm a believer in dreams giving signs/insight into your life. In Dec 2009, every night I dreamed about babies, which symbolizes a new beginning & big changes in your life. Right after that I got a new job & moved 1600 miles away. In that case, my dreams were extremely foreboding. But I also didn't assume that me dreaming about babies meant that I was supposed to run out & get pregnant or try to adopt one, cause that would be...well, stupid.

So Perry...I'd say that you really wanted to do something, which is leave your wife & kids & maybe the stresses of that domestic life. and shack up with a younger woman & you're using this "dream" thing as an excuse. Now why did you feel the need to write into BnB about it? Why did you need folks to cosign or validate that you threw away your marriage & daily interaction with your kids over what is probably just a midlife crisis? Sir, do better.

Oh & a hex on Disqus - I couldn't comment at all this week! *shakes fist*

Chele, I believe you have been storing up foolishness to unload on us all at once. SMH
Yes, I beleive that dreams can be your subconscious way of working things out. I beleive messages can be sent through dreams. I believe we do receive word from on high and that we are sent signs.

AIN'T NONE OF THAT GOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH PERRY
His old selfish ass wants a life reset and grabbed onto any excuse to make the move. Can't stand guys like this. Nothing is ever their fault and they always have someone to blame (Someone "like Jesus") when the cause destruction. Let me go get some more coffee. I know people in Decatur if he's talking Georgia. Don't let me go find Perry the streets.

Clay Jones said everything that needed to be said regarding Perry!

I think dreams can provide information, the bible speaks of many stories in which information was gleaned through dreams.  I tend to have a lot of prophetic dreams or dreams forecasting the future.  I might have a dream and then months or years later, the "event" happens.  Most of the time I have no idea what my dreams mean because they are so symbolic.  Now if I have a dream and it stays in my head, I assume it means something and I will find out in due time.

I've been trying to straighten my face out for a full minute.  I...dude...what?!

I believe dreams can SOMEtimes have a message - it's usually your subconscious telling you something you already know but haven't moved on.  But this right here...nawl.  That's just an excuse of life not being what you thought it was going to be.  We need some background on how Perry ended up married w/two kids - planned/unplanned...

Wow! I do dream quite a bit, and like Michelle, I do dream in color and it is often times like a movie.

As it relates to dreams in general, I do believe that dreams can be a form of prophecy. Being a follower of Jesus Christ, I believe that one of the ways He speaks to us is through dreams. My rule of thumb for dreams is this: If I can remember the dream vividly when I wake up, I believe that it has a special meaning to it and I will record it in my journal. After that, I'll pray to God for revelation.

Now concerning this dude in Decatur......for real tho?!! "Somebody like Jesus"?!! Man get on with that mess. Jesus ain't sent him that because if He did, it would line up with scripture, and the last time I checked, He ain't told NOBODY to leave their wife and kids. This dude is just doing exactly what he wants to do - he's forsaking the well-being of his wife and kids for his selfish desires. I say, the wife and kids have lucked out and I hope that they will find a man who is willing and able to be the kind of husband and father that they deserve.

Okay peeps - we've upgraded to the latest version of DISQUS. It's supposed to be easier and less drama filled. Yay for the upgraded DISQUS!! The other version hated me, haven't been able to comment for months. ANyway, now that I'm back... I do believe there is prophecy in dreams but as Clay said below, I don't believe that has anything to do with Perry's cray-cray self.

Perry, you 'bout some bullshit. Best of luck to your ex-wife.

Perry needs his ass kicked.

I strongly believe in dreams and signs. Last year I kept having a dream about a red car. Had no idea what it meant. A bunch of friends went on a road trip, I declined to go because I just felt weird about some reason. There was a crash, one died and the others were badly injured. The car that hit them was red. I don't know if it meant anything but I always go with those gut feelings.

Did I mention that Perry needs his ass kicked?

I do believe that things can be revealed to you in your dreams. HOWEVER, if it's not confirmed by the WORD of God, it's just that, a dream. As Jubi said, I do believe that dreams can be symbolic concerning other areas in our lives and should not be taken literally. I can attest to that too but I digress.

It sounds like Perry is ruled by his desires and not by Jesus.  My heart goes out to his wife and children though.  Perry, please get it together!!

Lady4Real said...

I dream just like you Chele, our connection boggles me sometimes. I ain't commenting on Perry. I know I believe in signs and dreams. I lost my bestest best friend 11.23.2003 to a tragic car accident, she was the one person who knew me better than I know myself. When she appears in my dreams it's usually for a reason, sometimes it's just to soothe my heart because I miss her and she appears and says hi and sometimes she warns me of things and so I take heed. I also get gut feelings that I never ignore because the times that I have things just didn't pan out well at all. I don't believe we are alone and that many things factor into the realities of our lives; freewill, gut feelings, premonitions and prophecy all have a part to play in our lives and destinies. Don't ignore the still small voice or the dreams that leave you feeling like there's a message.

Oh.

Ok.

You would have done way better off just saying you're exercising your God-given right to act a plum fool.

CaliGirlED said...

JoycelynC said...

Dear Perry,

Flag on the play! The God I serve would not encourage you through a dream or any other manner to leave your wife and children for a child in her early 20s. The fact that she is willing to be with you knowing full well that you walked out on your family speaks volumes about how this will go. I just pray your wife can find happiness with someone else cause you playing with the Lord and everybody else. Boo sir.

I'm not sure re: dreams being prophetic, though I'm not discounting it
entirely. My most vivid recent dreams involved me running through a
forest into a field that was covered in pockets of newborn black baby
rabbits. Not sure what THAT'S supposed to mean. O_O The other had me
playing card games with Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds, in what was
either a storm shelter or a church sleep-over. <_< If my
subconscious is trying to help me, I'd like those messages to come in
plain English please and thank you.

Meanwhile, I'm side-eyeing
the blerdnawt out of this 'Jesus or His likeness told me to leave my family for this
woman' story. I've heard some ri-damn-diculuous excuses for straying,
but this one is a medal winner. >_<

I do believe dreams can tell you something, serve as messages from God, and assist your subconscious in working out things in your life. However, I call bullshiggity on this mess. I would bet a good chunk of change that Perry met this woman, waited a few months, and finally pulled the trigger on leaving his family. Now he wants a cosign on his shiggity. No sir. Not. At. All.

I have had dreams that foretold events (mostly around babies/pregnancies for other people in my life, strangely enough). The first time, I didn't do anything. The next two times I talked with the people involved, but didn't tell them about my dream. I don't believe you share everything with everybody. I have done things based on a hunch/gut feeling plenty of times. i get in trouble when I ignore that feeling. I believe your intuition gets stronger the more you listen to it.

rozb said...

Dreams can reflect anxieties or current situations in your life. However, Perry is on some bull... He even tried to pull Jesus (or somebody like him) into his web of crap. He was going through some inadequacy issues, blamed his family, and took up with the young'un. He is a giant bag of fail. The wife needs to get on with life, make sure he takes care of his kids, and let his azz enjoy his crisis while he can. I hope his wife finds a man, because apparently, Perry isn't one - he just seems "like" one.

Shakes head at Perry's letter - sounds more like he had a premature mid life crisis than anything . Still can't believe he tried to justify his actions by saying he had a better life with a different woman in his dreams WOW! I wonder what he told his wife..... Hmmm.....
Chele you get some mighty interesting letters! Thanks for spoiling us in Bougieland with the great posts this week :-)

Me too...the tears of laughter I cried off this post is unseemly.

If Perry were single and in covenant with God, then I could buy that God showed him his wife in his dreams. But, otherwise, no. God holds marriage as sacred and hates (but permits) divorce. God would not show a married person their "soulmate" in their dreams and then instruct them to leave their marriage. If what he says is true, Perry has let Satan trick him.

Yes, I do believe that God can reveal/show things to us in our dreams. I also believe in prophecy. But, with both come independent confirmation. By independent I mean the confirmation is given spontaneously by a third party, who doesn't know what you've been shown, and you have not solicited their input/approval/confirmation, etc.

I believe in it because it's happened to me several times. So, yeah, I'm pretty much ignoring my calling. There is a responsibility that comes with it that I don't want. The whole thing scares the crap out of me, frankly. So, yes, it's real. But, if it doesn't line up with Scripture and isn't independently confirmed, then it's NOT from God. Satan has the power to influence dreams and prophecy, too. Look no further than psychics.

JojoRaze said...

co-sign. At first I was cackling at the ridiculousness of Perry's post, then I remembered the Scripture that from 2 Corinthians 11:14 about Satan appearing as an angel of light. Perry, because he wasn't in the Word, got bamboozled and led astray by a devil perpetuating a fraud. Now I feel sorry for Perry, but more so for his wife and children, who surely have been traumatized by this sad incîdent.

Eshe said...

Co-sign, Jojo. I was medicated when I wrote my reply and about to go to sleep, so Scripture hunting was out of the question, LOL. So, thank you for picking up the ball and running it in with the verse from 2 Corinthians. :)
