Summer Heat, Anniversaries and Black Bloggers

You know it's hot in Texas when you have to escape to Florida to get a breeze. BougieMom and I are chilling in Fort Lauderdale for a few days visiting BougieSis. Also my godparents, who are some of the most marvelous people on the planet, are here to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary. Fifty-one years?! Can you even imagine? On top of that, they still really not only love each other but like each other. How much awesomeness is that?

Thursday, I'll be heading north to attend the Blogging while Brown convention in Philadelphia. Looking forward to putting a lot of names/Twitter handles with faces there. From there, I'll be back in Dallas for a few days then it's off to Houston for the National Black Book Festival. H-town, I'm thinking cocktails the evening of Saturday the 8th. Stay tuned.

We're doing a wonderful thing at the "keep the lights on" job called Summer Hours. That's every Monday off from now through Labor Day. Cheers for the three-day weekends! I can get my 2012 release publicized and my 2013 release written.

In between all that, I'll be heading to Punta Mita, Mixico for some R&R in June and back to celebrate BougieMom's 80th birthday in early July. It's shaping up to be quite the summer.

BougieLand, what do you have planned for this summer?

Oh, I feel special; I'm the first to comment! :)  (Well, at least as I'm typing this, but I digress...)

Well, I just got back home from visiting for Memorial Day weekend, which I will NEVER do again!  There was absolutely nothing going on, and I would have had more fun and options in DC.  But I got to see my family, so that was an added bonus.  I'll be going to the A next month for a fundraiser, and the week after that I'll be going to NYC to see "A Streetcar Named Desire".  I'm SUPER excited about that.  I plan on taking a little me time and visiting the beach solo sometime in July or August.  I haven't been to the beach in a while, and for a girl that was living 20 minutes away from the beach for 5 years that's a problem...

Kicked off the summer spending Memorial Day weekend in Dallas. Had an absolute blast. Would have been nice to meet some BougieLand folks but I guess it wasnt' meant to be.

I vow to take at least one trip a year involving a passport, but I've got a couple of out of state weddings and both of my sisters are having babies this year, so I'm probably sticking in the good ole continental USA this year. Besides, Delta released the dates and prices for our Centennial celebration next year and if I want to attend, I need to seriously start stacking my chips now. LOL

How can I get next to that summer hour program? Let me holla at H. R-uh.
Right now my summer looks like work, work and then when I finish that - more work.

Chele your life is never dull is it? :-)...Yay for you coming to Houston, looking forward to it!

Well I won two free trips over the weekend and will definitely be taking advantage of the Vegas trip before the summer ends! If I'm lucky I can sneak off to Mexico in as well. Hopefully I can also get some short weekend getaways in and really have an awesome summer. I am soooooo overdue!

Headed to Dallas end of July for a family reunion. Hope to catch up with some BougieLanders and other friends in the area, but since I'll be reuniting with my L.A. folks as well, time will not be on my side.

No big trips planned this summer. I usually travel w/my two sisters and our sisterfriend but they are respectively student, unemployed, and newly married.  So it's looking like trips to Philly to see the fam and mini-trips to Atlantic City w/my sisters.

Chele, I wanna be like you when I grow up :-)

This summer I'll be celebrating my 30th birthday on July 6 :-) Right now looking like a spa day & poppin bottles with my homies in Mpls & Orlando. I've got a couple of weddings to attend, my mom is coming to visit, & hopefully a trip to Atlanta as well. And still job hunting & working on my new business.

I will be doing family visits this year which will take me to NC and MS.  I am hoping that it won't be hotter than heyall during either of these visits because I want to enjoy the time.  I also plan to get in a few weekend trips along the California coast as well.

Summer is the best, isn't it!  Only things that are set in stone for me are American Black Film Fest in Miami in June.  Friend's film is premiering there!!!!  Later in July, I'm going home to MS to celebrate a friend's 40th and spend time with my family since I didn't go for Mother's Day.  Outside of those two jaunts, everything else is up in the air.  I'll make a local beach trip at some point.  Rehoboth Beach, DE is my driving distance fave beach.

I took 4 days two weeks ago and got some RR at the Poconos  before summer classes started. Planning a hiking trip in Maine July/ August and then a trip to Florida  Labor day weekend. Ideally though, if my pocket would allow me, I would love to go to Istanbul, Turkey for  1 week.

Regarding Centennial activities...chile, I feel ya.  However, I need to pay my dues first and foremost.  *bad Delta...slaps my own hand*

I am dying to see this version of Streetcar!  I am so debating whether to sneak into NYC to catch it or not but haven't decided yet.

Sorors, I feel you on Centennial...and I live in DC!  But I need to get financial, too... :(  That's a vacation in and of itself! (Oh, and hopefully we'll get to meet during January or July 2013???)

Let's see my summer is starting to get busy. I have two weddings this summer, my grandmother's 80th birthday, my first solo international trip to Belize in July (super excited!!!), and my 30something birthday/pool party in August (lol!!). I'm trying to fit in some weekend trips to Boston, NYC, etc. since we get half day Fridays at the job until Labor Day.

MsJamie14 said...

I've gotta pick one...so I chose July. LOL. Did get the dues part out the way though, thank goodness for small blessings. LOL

Summer will be pretty chill. I want to do something mildly adventurous when I blow out 40 candles in July. I may visit extended family in Tampa or Atlanta as well.

Well since I love the job that has me captive I will adjust accordingly.I just came back from NYC for the weekend. I have the NBA draft in NYC in June, I'll go to Essence for the 4th, then Summer League in vegas in mid July. Ill get to Boule in San Fran at the end of July. Trying to squeeze in the Olympics in august , then another week long trip to NYC for NBA Rookie Photoshoot. Cant forget the Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremonies in Boston around labor day weekend. Then hopefully a real vacay on an island sometime after that. Wish I could take half of days on fridays that would be greatness!

My summer plans are to follow you around as a personal assistant...seriously, that's what I'm going to do...as soon as you hire me ;)

I am beginning a new three-week workshop next Monday, which means I'll be helping to shape eager minds before they enroll at university, and then a second workshop in July.  Otherwise, I'll be working on

résumés for a few folks, with no travel scheduled as of now, but plenty of time at the pool.

Soror! It will be good to have you with us for the Centennial!! I'll be looking forward to meeting you in the fray, lol.

What chapter are you looking to join? You can always hit me up outside of here at amw dot engagetheworld at gmail.

I live in DC, too.  NE to be exact.  So glad I won't have to shell out the hotel fees.  Already have two sorors who have booked their stay with me for next year.  My cousin and a linesister.  I can't take any others.  There's only one additional bedroom and one bath.  Soror, we can definitely get together before next year.  We don't have to wait that long! LOL!  My email addy is tenderheart93 at gmail dot com.  Same goes for you, too, Angel Blanca.

I've been MIA as the hospital is truly holding me hostage-Chele, I have been reading faithfully though :-) Had to chime in and say that I went to go and see Streetcar opening week in NYC, and believe me when I say it is worth every single penny and then some. How is it that Blair Underwood never seems to age? And Nicole Ari Parker does a stellar job. And Terence Blanchard hooking up the music? Well worth a trip to the city solely for that!

We're sliding into winter here in Melbourne, and got married exactly 11 days ago, just in time for the last of the fall color -- the plane tree outside the window went from bright gold and deep orange to bare in no time flat. I'm job-hunting, and will continue to job-hunt until someone hires me. I'm hoping that happens in time for me to pay for school in October, so I can re-qualify myself for something better than customer service work. (Long-term goal is midwifery; short term is the Aussie version of my phlebotomy certification, because it takes less time than the midwifery and will pay better than customer service.) Between then and now, well, there's immigration paperwork, maybe getting my license, and swimming. Not glamorous, but not a bad life, I must admit.

I have maternity leave on deck for the middle of the summer.

I've decided to go to Founders Day activities instead of convention so I can do a grown folks vacation in the summer. And Founders Day is easier on my wallet.

13 days of school left! I'm running the new teacher Induction for my region, headed to see my parents in Chicago for July 4th, then going to Israel for 2 weeks (with pit stops in New York).

I can't wait until school's out--18 second graders in a 2nd floor Cali classroom gets old, quickly.

I LOVE Hilton Head!!! That's where my dad is from, so I spent every summer and most holidays there growing up.  Plus, I just came back from there at the end of April for my cousin's baby shower.  Have an awesome time!!!

YAY!  I get to meet TIH in person! :)

I about fell out of my seat when I read, "You know it's hot in Texas when you have to escape to Florida to get a breeze." That is the main reason I had to move out of Texas. It just gets too dang hot there.

Anyway, I just wanted to leave a note to tell you how that made my day.
