Crime has no color (nor does idiocy)

Let's first present this shiggty (guised as lessons he tells his children) from John Derbyshire of the National Review without preface:
(10a) Avoid concentrations of blacks not all known to you personally.

(10b) Stay out of heavily black neighborhoods.

(10c) If planning a trip to a beach or amusement park at some date, find out whether it is likely to be swamped with blacks on that date (neglect of that one got me the closest I have ever gotten to death by gunshot).

(10d) Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks.

(10e) If you are at some public event at which the number of blacks suddenly swells, leave as quickly as possible.

(10f) Do not settle in a district or municipality run by black politicians.

(10g) Before voting for a black politician, scrutinize his/her character much more carefully than you would a white.

(10h) Do not act the Good Samaritan to blacks in apparent distress, e.g., on the highway.

(10i) If accosted by a strange black in the street, smile and say something polite but keep moving.

(11) The mean intelligence of blacks is much lower than for whites. The least intelligent ten percent of whites have IQs below 81; forty percent of blacks have IQs that low. Only one black in six is more intelligent than the average white; five whites out of six are more intelligent than the average black. These differences show in every test of general cognitive ability that anyone, of any race or nationality, has yet been able to devise. They are reflected in countless everyday situations. “Life is an IQ test.”
I have questions -
1. They still MAKE people like this?
2. What kind of event is he talking about where black folks just flood in all of sudden?
3. I notice he didn't reference his source for those IQ stats? The KKK newsletter perhaps? Aryan Nation Weekly?
4. So the fact that the burglar I caught in my house (in a predominantly non-black neighborhood) was white means... what?
5. The fact that the one time someone tried to snatch my purse, it was a white person in a sea of white people means... what?
6. The only time I feared being gunned down, the gun was being held by someone not of African descent means... what?
7. By the way, if these were rules 10-11, I'm scared to know what 1-9 might have been.

Let's piggyback the aforementioned idocy with the email I received from a Guy calling himself White Night:
We don't know each other, let's you and me tell the truth. All of your relationship issues stem from the fact that you need a strong white man who isn't intimidated by your afrrican power to tame you. You only love Obama because he's half white. And if Trayvon Martin was a white kid you wouldn't care. Why don't you try being black, bougie and believable?
Are you still blinking with disbelief at your screen as I did for several minutes after reading this? This guy gave me "permission" to publish his email address but I say why? To give him the attention he so obviously seeks? No. Thank. You. I want to respond but I'm too busy cackling to say anything besides - huh? What ya'll know about my African Power? Does that come bottled or in a cream based formula? Here are my answers:

1. I've never had a white guy offer to whip it out and tame me. I'll take #IgnantforAnyRace for $1000, Alex. I'm confused, is dude trying to chastise me or date me?
2. Obama shade is so passe unless you're running for national office. In which case, carry on.
3. If Trayvon Martin was white, he'd still be alive today.
4. I can't fit black 'n bougie 'n believable on the banner.

BougieLand, do discuss. Thoughts, comments, insights? Gotta response for White Night?

I am speechless.  It's 5 a.m. I have to think about this one a bit, I will be back later.

Let me just say that there post is the exact reason and I always have a severe distrust of those  who mark themselves as conservative. That national review article hit yesterday and i have heard very little from the conservative press debunking or dismissing it. they try so hard to say that racism is past us and we should just get over it, yet these issues and thoughts are always lying in the background looking for an excuse to come out. Ugh.

I can't believe (actually I do) people are this ignert in 2012! What in the hey is African Power??? Who are these people?

Ummmmm...yeah...so, ummmmm....I have no words.  These idiotic examples of American white chauvinism and racism show that we DO NOT live in a post-racial society.  And unfortunately, I don't think we ever will.

i saw this yesterday and stopped reading about a quarter of the way through. people like this don't deserve any country. ignorance like this will do nothing but make me mad for no reason.

Jesus be the strength and restrain. I  tried reading Derbyshire and could not finish it.   The night POTUS was elected I was in a restaurant in DC waiting on the returns and this guy (white - Obama supporter) on our table said "if Obama is elected the racist of  all racist  will be out and blunt with it. Boy was he right.
Number 11 though, he  is in  of  need of math lessons.

Mr. White Night needs more people. SMH

So, I just read the burglar in your house post for the first time. Not sure if you intended this, but how ironic is it that your story has similar elements of Travyon Martin and George Zimmerman's story (i.e. an ACTUAL suspcious character ACTUALLY stealing something, chasing him in your car, calling the police during the chase, in the South, etc.) yet Meth-head didn't end up gunned down...interesting.

If anybody was justified to "stand your ground" (if that law actually existed in TX) it could have been you. You weren't making an "assumption" that dude was up to something, he really had your car keys in hand along with BougieMom's cash in YO HOUSE! LOL Yet you resisted the urge to use a deadly weapon, gave up the chase and let the authorities handle it - like normal and rational people are supposed to do. And people think that racial profiling is a figment of our imaginations...yeah, ok.

I saw this and I was not surprised by it.  I have been told that the way that I see the world makes me a pessimist but I believe that it makes me a realist.

Of course I don't believe all white people think like this but I do believe that the number of those that do is significantly higher than "polite society" would like to publicly acknowledge.  For example, White Knight.  Every bit of his comment comes from the same thought process/belief system that Derbyshire relays in his writing.  People that think the same way as Derbyshire co-mingle and often are intertwined personally with those that don't everyday and yet they are allowed to actively engage in those thought processes unabated.   Although these type of people can be fired from their jobs we must all consider how they are continually allowed to do this crap with impunity until it becomes inconvenient.  The National Review was built on this type of garbage and only now they want to take a stand?  Whatever.

With lunatics like this alive and well, it truly pisses me off to hear people accuse us of being too sensitive when it comes to race.  Really though?   This proves the "talk" will need to be had for decades to come because these idiots procreate.

Jubi The Great said...

Derbyshire's comments were racist & dangerous & so completely uncalled for.

BUT...let's not act like we haven't made or heard some of those comments as well from other Black folks like ourselves. We talk about not wanting to be in certain parts of town, or at certain places/events (whether its the hood club or Miami for Memorial Day weekend)  because it attracts the wrong element. We ladies talk about combating street harassment with a smile & walking away as to avoid potential violence/abuse. So are we upset that a White man said it & that he's painting us all with a broad brush? Is it ok when we talk about other Blacks who do fit these stereotypes?

Feel free to stone me...I'm not excusing Derbyshire or absolving him of anything. Clearly most of his comments are completely off the wall & based in ignorance.

The only reason I'm not mad at Derbyshire is this: he was 'nice' enough to let the whole world know where he stands regarding race relations. If only more of the Enlightened and Educated would let their sheets fly; then, we'd really see how Post-Racial we are.

I prefer my African Power in the cream based formula. Please and thank you.

And if Trayvon Martin was a white kid you
wouldn't care. <--this sentence doesn't make sense in the context of his email.

That's all I have to say.

I saw the National Review article yesterday and I couldn't even finish it. And then you throw in White Knight's email for seasoning. What we have here is proof of the reason I can never completely trust white people (and some black folks, Juan Williams/Alan West/Michelle Malkin). I keep hoping that this kind of ignorant thought will die but it seems it is alive and well and living on the internet.

The problem with Derbyshire's comments are they suffer from false equivalency. White people make up about 64% if the population. In some places white people can go their entire lives never having to interact with a person of color. He was being appropriately condescending with his article.

There are bad apples in all racial or ethnic groups as no group has the monopoly on bad, immoral or unethical behavior.  Anyone who believes otherwise is daft, simple or just plain ignorant.

I think it is about time that Derbyshire got canned as he has been an admitted racist and homophobe for years.  The least of White Night's issues is that he needs Hooked on Phonics.

What caught my interest are these sentences:

“The Talk” is about how you are perceived by others, and how to comport yourself so as to counteract that perception. Derbyshire’s talk is about how you should perceive others. There’s no analogy. They have nothing to do with each other.

GammasWorld said...

Derbyshire:  I gots nothing.  These are the types of folk who are gon' believe what they gon' believe and no amount of my anger and indignation is going to change that.   He'll find an outlet for his racist "teachings" and will be fine.  You can believe that.  White Knight:  the fact that he thinks he can "tame" a woman renders any and all of his opinion a non-factor.

For my own sanity, I'ma have to skip over the first part of the post except to say I attempted to read that menagerie of mess and my heart wouldn't do it.  I'm tired... being black is hard and I just didn't have it in me today.  There aren't words.

As for this white man... I'm a) not convinced he's white (and before someone gets all inside their feeling area, I'm not saying he's black, I'm saying people lie on the internet; I'm not saying a white man would never send such an email, I'm JUST saying people LIE on the internet) and b) wondering if it was wrong that my mind went to that part of Waiting to Exhale when Troy (one of Robin's men) is trying to seduce her (and make her stop being angry) and he keeps repeating "am I gon' have to tame you?"  I chuckled.

Anyway, he needs some friends or something.  Maybe a job or hobby.  A good book to read.  Chele, maybe you should send him one of your books.  *shrug*
