The Matrix - WWYD?

Keanu Reeves is a technical genius, a bit of a loner/loser, and is looking for meaning in his life. He's got the boring efficiency apartment, the cubicle job and no love life worth mentioning.  Love interest Carrie Ann Moss is a kick-ass cyberbabe with superpowers and the ability to wear vinyl and leather like nobody's business. Enter Laurence Fishburne, mind-bending bad-ass guru with a vision and a plan (and a bit of a God complex). All Keanu has to do is believe and he can save mankind (and wear cool black outfits while doing it). Put yourself in this situation:

You always suspected that there was some grand conspiracy going on around you. The world is not always as it seems. Someone supersexy approaches you and shows you things about yourself and your world you're not sure you're ready to know. Then supersexy person takes you to the leader and he offers you a choice. If you take the red pill, your life will go on as is. The world as you know it will the same. If you take the blue pill, nothing will ever be the same again. You are entering into an unknown. Exciting, tantalizing but still... unknown.

Good folks of BougieLand, what would you do? Do you take the red pill or the blue pill? What I'm asking is: Are you a pinky toe in the shallow end or high dive into the deep end? Are you a risk-taker? Would you venture into the unknown with no guarantees and no turn-back? Have you always been this way? Do you think you would ever change? Why? Think on it and then share...

Blue Pill.
I've always been adventurous. Everything in my life that has paid off has been because I took a risk.
Maturity now means I have a little semblance of balance, experience has meant I don't need to take so many risks.

But I'm still the girl who gets a thrill by living dangerously, I like to do the unexpected, I grab a back pack pick a spot and I'm out. Part of me kinda thinks we are living in a matrix anyway

Blue Pill, no doubt.

I've always been a "jump in & figure it out later" type of person. I'm a risk taker, but after doing at least a limited weighing of the possible consequences & deciding if I can live with them. I'm not implusive per se, but I do tend to go for things that would give the average person pause. No risk, no reward, right?

Blue Pill.

I'm always curious about what's around that corner, behind that door.  I haven't ever grown out of that "why" stage that children go through.

Life is more interesting that way.

I'm always of the school of though;, I'm  behind the wheels of my destiny.  plus my analytical self will dissect this  pill thing to death. I might miss out on the tantalizing. I like to take calculated risk, if there is a such thing. I want to be able to know that I will land on my two feet once I take the flip. LeSigh. This explains why I'm not successful. <---- virgos weakness;  way 2 darn practical.

Thanks Chele for the spin on  movie week; you entertain  and challenge us at the same time.

As much as I say I'm a blue pill guy #NoViagra, I'm really red pill all the way. Ten years ago, blue. Now, red.

Were you watching South Park last night?

Red pill.

I am the master of my fate, the captain of my soul. :) But seriously, if life isn't going the way I want it to, it's within my power to change it. I don't need anyone selling me some magic beans to do what I can do for myself.

MsJamie14 said...

LMAO @ #NoViagra.

*raises hand* May I have a purple pill? #indecisive #wantitbothways

OneChele said...

I've actually never seen an episode of South Park. Why do you ask?

OneChele said...

Side-eye at #NoViagra. I hadn't even thought.... Le Sigh.

bashowell said...

I'd say as I get older I'm moving from red to blue.  Life is too short to live in a safe little box.

Brandon St. Randy said...

they did a Matrix spoof yesterday. Stan was depressed, so they gave him alcohol. Catmann made delicious burgers by shoving them up his butt. classy stuff

LMAO! I like this answer.

OneChele said...

Sounds like an instant classic ;-). So which are you, sir? Red or Blue?

Mykeia said...

Blue pill...with a disclaimer.  :-)

CaliGirlED said...

LOL, Riley I didn't answer because I was thinking can't I at least know a little bit of the outcome!

*stands in the purple pill line behind Riley*

I am a risk taker. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I believe this attitude is just ny DNA.

Miz JJ said...

Just when everything is coming together this happens?!? Not at all. I'll take the red pill thanks.

BlackButterfly said...

I am in the red pill category for sure because although I enjoy excitement and spontaneity there is still a certain level of thought I put into it.  I don't like the dangling in the air by a bungee cord feeling of the unknown.  No and thank you.

We had a similar discussion in Bible study about the differences between having faith, blind faith and absolute faith. I've always been a pinky, one step at a time person and the argument was made that meant I didn't have blind or absolute faith in God to handle my life. As you said in a recent post, Chele - Jesus isn't through with me yet. That being said, if forced to chose between red and blue - I'm pretty happy with  life as is - I'll go red.

SingLikeSassy said...

It depends...do I get $100 million? If so, let's talk.

Jesse said...

It just now occurs to me - do you think there was any political thought to those pill colors? Red everything stays the same, blue is exciting and unknown? I'm team blue.

taut_7 said...

blue pill. without a doubt.

ClayJones said...

I think blue pill is for the young and adventurous or the "more mature" in need of a reset.
I know some people I would love to give a blue pill to - is that an option?
I'm red.

GuessImJay said...

I like how you think. That $100mm can change entire life plans.

Only1DivaC said...

Hmm, I would say if you talked to me 2 years ago I was a red pill girl all day every day. Now I'm a blue pill girl. I figure what's the harm in trying something once. Of course, it must be legal!

AndreaPlaid said...

Uh-oh--the pills in the OP are switched: red pill=taking the risk to see what the Matrix really is, blue pill=staying safely cocooned in the Matrix's delusion. (Though I suspect quite a few of us have seen the flick to know what Chele is getting at.)

As for me: I always think I'm all about the blue pill: safety and security. Then I look at some of my major life decisions (like moving to New York City, a city I wanted to live in since I was 14 when I first laid eyes on a New Yorker in my late 30s barely knowing a soul and barely any $$$; taking on the same magazine for their running that now-infamous Obamas cover  knowing that I'd kill my relationship with a live-in ex who worked there (we had many probs in the relationship--that was just the last straw)), and I realize that I'm on Team Red Pill.

What I find baffling is that some people think bougie folks stay sucking down blue pills and compound that criticism by making it an issue of Negritude.

AndreaPlaid said...

No shade on your faith whatsoever, BB Waite. Jesus himself impresses me to be a definite red pill (seeing the Matrix as is, taking enormous risk for what he believed in) person and died because he was trying to get people out of the Matrix, to see another way to live and think about life, the universe, and everything. And, depending on your faith, when one take that "leap of faith" in believing in him, that person is also choosing to wake up from the Matrix, too.

Just a thought...

BklynBajan said...

(Based on the movie) I'm taking the red pill for change.  Its miserable living in someone else's box of life.

#TeamBluePill All. Day.

AndreaPlaid said...

See, you had to bring in saggy-jawed Robert Redford into a firm-jawed Keanu Reeves/Laurence Fishburne joint.:-D

blackprofessor said...

I've only seen 2 episodes of South Park in my life and I am still traumatized by them!!!

blackprofessor said...

Blue pill for change all day! By nature, I am an adventurer but my over analytical skills kick in so I take calculated risks.  I think about the next move and the different outcomes before deciding on my calculated risk, which is akin to my chess strategy.  You only get one life right??

AnnettePearl said...

On an unrelated subject, did I see @DavidLChase sitting with you at the concert last night?

blackprofessor said...

You are too much for me Sassy, lol!!

AnnettePearl said...

Team #StaysTheSamePlease - whichever color that is.

Awesome answer!

Sol_dier said...

Like most things in life, I think at some point YOU make a choice, we are who we are because of AND despite socialisation and culture.

I bucked against most things happening around me as a kid, I soon found out that those things that people claimed as 'culture' were only the things they wanted to remember. Go back far enough and you'll find your behaviour and attributes as the norm within your 'culture' & environment.

please don't be too hard on yourself, it takes all sorts and approaches to 'make it' (whatever we decide 'making it' is) Each situation, life and environment calls for different handling skills.
Just keep doing what is right for you, whether it be a change or stay as is.

There ain't no formula, we just living it as we go along ;) (((Goodluck!)))

OneChele said...

Woo-hoo! Yep. He surprised me by showing up at the concert. He's in town for five whole days.

Sol_dier said...

saggy or no. 100 Milly? I just want to clarify what the kink is. Otherwise, I'm game. Sorry I'm not even gon' lie bout that.

AndreaPlaid said...

LOL! You know it's usually those saggy-jawed, offering-$100M-to-do-ya types who are into the kinkiest kinks, right?

AndreaPlaid said...

Why, thank you! ::deeply curtsies::

AndreaPlaid said...

You two know you don't get to wear any fly pleather/leather outfits with that answer, right?

AndreaPlaid said...

Awwwwww! You two stay on the cute.

CaliGirlED said...

Aw, what a great surprise! First the purple shoes, now a surprise trip from China, David stays on top of things!

OneChele said...

How did ya'll turn a Matrix discussion into some kink?! You know what... never mind. Carry on.

ShawnSoze said...

Stay in the bs, boring humdrum or follow the chick in the leather catsuit? Are you seriously asking?

AndreaPlaid said...

Ma'am, in my poor defense, 1) that was @357a20e8c56e69d6f9734d23ef9517e8 who broke out the whole "I wanna know what the kink is" comment. I was just responderating to the comment, 2) Neo's and Trinity's outfits do hint at some BDSM, if nothing else, to add to their badass images, and 3) 'twas not I who mentioned #NoViagra. See, you'd think so, coming from me...but no.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.:-D

Brandon St. Randy said...

depends. Did I already get the $100m for rogering Gabby Sidibe so good she'd give up fried food for another go round? If so, blue pill. Otherwise, I'll check out the red scene

rozb said...

Up until a few years ago, I would probably choose the blue pill - no doubt! But as I have gotten older and more settled, I am less likely to just jump in and take unnecessary risks.

Now as far as changing my surroundings or going for new career opportunities I am blue pill all the way. But when it comes to life decisions like love, babies, and other personal stuff, I think too much - alas, the red pill in these situations.

rozb said...

Yay Chele! Smooth move David - keep it up, dude!

rozb said...

Maybe denim pantsuits?

bashowell said...

Well it's only illegal if you get caught...

AndreaPlaid said...

I can see them rocking something like this: http://snowqueenoftx.tumblr.com/post/4921829822

Sol_dier said...

You just gonna leave me all alone in the guilty corner?.
Well.... #noshame :p (and on that note... moving on)

AndreaPlaid said...

Now, if you would've said Clive Owen (Inside Man) or Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings trilogy) or Luke Goss (Hellbender 2) or Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), then I woulda stayed hanging with you in the corner with leather assless pants and chaps. But Robert Redford? People will get stayed in the corner all by themselves.

CaliGirlED said...

YOU.ARE.SO.WRONG.FOR.THAT.PICTURE!!! LOL!!!

DCbywayofCali said...

Hell, I'm a straight woman and I'd rather follow the woman in leather.  When something that outlandish presents itself there is almost no other answer than boo bish bye!

Singlelif said...

I swear fo' God, that's my EXACT answer !!  I don't like surprises..unless they are awesome.  I generally want a little of both..as long as I know (or think I know), the outcome. It's no wonder purple is my favorite color.

KEVIN said...

The pills are switched no?

The red pill.  Everyone worships Keanu, Sallie Mae doesn't exist and I have a closet full of  Trinity's boots in multiple colors.

rozb said...

This was the funniest stuff I have seen in quite some time. I am slayed...

I've been Team Red my whole entire life even when I didn't particularly like where I was.  It was known, it was familiar.  Now having had some serious health scares, I am so ready for some blue pills.  I fantasize about walking away from everything and just seeing what's out there.    Let me get a few dollars back together ... ain't no tellin where I'll be writing from :)
