Ah yes, it's reader participation day. You all are a talkative bunch. Put your keyboard where your mouth is... or something like that.
Have questions for me, one of the BougieLand faithful, the world at large? Who wants to know what Riley does for a living, what's Coretta's next event, how did Tiffany's anniversary go, where have Grown Ass Man and AnotherWord43 been? Ask away.
Surely there's an opinion you've been dying to share, a point you're itching to make, a song you want to sing, a booty you want to shake? Now's your chance. Get it in. Two rules - keep it NC-17 and be nice. In other words, let's be bougie out there.
The floor (and mic) is yours... whatcha got?

Well, I guess I'll start:
I know you're not an oversharer, so of course ignore these questions if they are too personal. However, after the bathtub story, I figured I'd give it a shot. LOL
I'd love to hear about:
How did y'all came to the key exchange?
Any stories from Mama Battleax when she came for the family reunion?
If you settled on the "titles" for each other (judging from yesterdays "girlfriend" post, I just assume ya'll are rolling with the traditional titles)?
If y'all are at the "I love you" point and who said it first (We can already guess who did tho, lol)?
At this point in your life, would you want to have kids?
Ooh - good questions!
Is Nikki Minaj's fried chicken wing necklace a sign of the end times? Do you think the commenter from yesterday already bought one with matching earrings? Why are neck tattoos on women acceptable now and how can we reverse this trend?
That pink fried chicken wing necklace is definitely a sign of the end of times. Better get right with Jesus nem.
Neck tats are just a warning that a hoodrat is in your midst. I can't imagine any respectable, grown ass, working a 9 to 5 that's not on the corner or a pole woman or man can find a reason to justify a neck tat.
*taps mic*
I am right here. Sometimes the people who pay me what me to do stuff and it interferes with my Bougie commentin time. I still have eyes on y'all though and weigh in when warranted. BTW that mess yesterday didn't even deserve comment. A Grown brotha ain't trying to be up on any pedestal tryin not to fall off.
"'till the roof comes off, till the lights go out, till my legs give out, can't shut my mouth..."
^^^What he said. I'm on the promotion tap dance. 20 cities in 30 days. Pray for me. Might not make it.
First thought when I saw that picture, "Better get your house in order"! (Things you heard when you were younger that you never thought you would say! LOL)
The neck tats make me cringe!
"A Grown brotha ain't trying to be up on any pedestal tryin not to fall off."...GOLDEN!!!
When is Roz's wedding? Where are pics from Amy/Rob? We nosy round here.
I caught a whiff of a few BnB gossip issues off da Twitter-
Who is going to knock out Steve?
Who is @GuessImJay dating? Who isJohnKinPDX seeing from BnB?
Inquiring minds want to know...
Roz is getting married this Saturday. YAY!!!
So I got questions for the 3 Georgia boys:
1. Despite all the traveling, is Mr. Trey dating or talking to anybody?
2. Is Mr. Jay still dating supermodels over there?
3. Did Mr. Shawn get back with his girlfriend?
Yes, inquiring minds want to know up in here.
you can do it!
*hands you protein bar and gatorade.
questions from a pt-bouginista:
When is Riley going to do an entire post? Who are other blogs y'all read/write (I know we shared twitter accounts...but let me be more unproductive at work)
Holla if you come to LA
How did all the GA boys end up in Dallas?
*eats lunch and reads questions with interest*
We have a client who is a c-suite level dude at a fortune 10. His assistant has a tribal sun neck tattoo. My colleague and I basically stared at her for a full minute not saying a word.
Have hoodrats infiltrated the corporate rankings that successfully?
its good to talk to some of y'all outside of BnB. twitter is great sometimes. sometimes, not so much.
also, i will i say that's what i get for talking trash to chele monday afternoon. her cowboys beat my redskins. she shouldn't be too proud of that victory though. 6 field goals? smh
Yes indeed. I would almost bet that she changes into her happy hour gear at 5 on the dot in the bathroom too. She probably has a gold eyetooth too.
LOL! You made me spit out my tea. I needed that laugh.
This is why youth should wait until their brains have finished growing before they make permanent mistakes like a neck tattoo. <>
I worked briefly with a temp in the early 2000's and she was a really nice person that always dressed really well and with a lot of beautiful neck scarves. Well one day she came to deliver mail to my desk and she had on a collared white blouse and no scarf. Sitting on her neck was her name written in this HUGE black script. I was in shock but familiar enough to ask, "why did you do that to yourself?'. She basically said that she liked it then but it was basically because she was young and stupid and not thinking past that.
Neck tattoos are the worst!!
Right! I am with Grace, can we get photos??
The anniversary was quiet and lowkey. We are saving the follies and foolery for Vegas. We leave on Sunday for 5 days. An anniversary-moon if you will.
Neck tats are sexy. :-/
Seriously, I've noticed several older teens at the high school near me in Brooklyn with neck tattoos. It wouldn't bother me so much if these were 35 year old women, but these girls are creating more problems for themselves. Black people already have one strike for being black. Why add a second and third by hoodifying your neck? Are you going to wear turtle necks year round? Not everyone can be a hair stylist, make-up artist, or creative type where neck stains are okay.
First... I love being in Bougieland because it is a way to converse or be enlightened by a lot of great grown folks!
I'm raising a daughter in this convoluted world to focus on being her best self and living her best life. There are so many derailing obstacles in society that want to encroach on that goal but she does grasp the importance. **not meaning to channel Oprah but hey I like good thoughts**
Is everyone here in Bougieland feeling like they have accomplished this goal? (This question is not specific to any particular requirement or content; just whatever you think best self and best life means for you)
Me: I struggled initially because I was the oldest child and the mediator growing up and holding those particular places in a family can lead to a life lived being about other people coming first. Now I live a life that makes me happy because it takes what I want and what I think into account first. I am good but always growing.
A BlacknBougie LA happy hour? Let me know....
Aw cousin you know you got it!!! Hang in there!
Fried chicken wing necklaces are what make the caged bird hang itself.
Shiiiid somewhere in this office building, chicks are wearing their happy hour fits TO WORK!!! One day I'm going to follow Candy (yes that's her name) and see what the sign says outside the office she works in. My best guess, "Poles R' Us, Inc."!
So umm...where are the answers to the questions?
GAM always say something that makes me holler, love his responses!
I second that! When is Riley going to tell us all about himself?
Works for me...
1. The key exchange - I rang the doorbell one day, he opened the door and handed me a key. "It's easier" is all he said.
2. I will write one Mama story from the reunion.
3. No titles. He's David, I'm Michele.
4. Ya'll nosy.
5. Jury's still out.
Scoreboard dude. It was ugly though wasn't it? I expected more from the NFC East this year.
So...what do y'all do to pay the bills?
Me I'm a nutritionist for the federal government.
Best life/best self. Nope. I'm getting there. Some kinda way. It's a learning process and a forever process, I think.
Hey Bougieland! What is the one thing that you wish the collective Black community would do?
Me too! That would be too much fun.
There are some really good questions here, can't wait to see some of the answers.
I agree with bashowell. I will say that I think I am a close as I have ever been.

Stop waiting for someone else to fix all our problems. Start by doing something positive on you block and see if it will catch on.
Unless you live an alternative life style, neck tats are bad move. That said, why must we be so harsh?

I think all you can do is find a way to feel good about yourself and steer your children to do the same. Help them develop a path and teach them it's okay to fall off of it from time to time. To me, that's living the best life - when you are confident in who you are, what you're doing and who you are surrounded by. If you can infuse that into your children, you've done your best.

Wesley and Shawn came out first. They used to work for a large beverage company in Atlanta, got recruited to a beverage company in Dallas and then went to work for other entities. Bryan's uncle is in real estate and had a house he reno'd that Bryan bought because his wife has a ton of family in Texas. I can live anywhere and I wanted out of NYC so I bought the next house and came down. I don't remember how Trey got here. I think he asked for a transfer. He was in Charlotte before this. David was the last one to come down. All of that I long winded way to say, two came for work and the rest followed.
How come the first thought I had when I saw the title of this post was "OH LORD!!"? O_O
Ummm, ma'am - what is this? I will answer number 3 and that's a no.
*side-eye to the lot of you*
I'm truly upset I googled that chicken wing necklace. That sound you hear is MLK and Malcolm trying to kick their way out of their graves.

Well that all worked out nicely didn't it!
Houston BnB hangout coming soon! Lurkers, come on out! Stalkers, stay where the hell you are!
Since I'm in a speaking up mood, why is being a dancer a running punchline on this site?
This is one of the very few things I take issue with here. The fact that in an effort to make a point in regards to what's Bougie or not, or to lighten things up with a joke, those with lifestyles outside the norm are put down.
Stuff like this is what keeps me from sharing my insights as someone who knows a thing or two about women who capitalize on their looks, straight from the horses mouth or via my own experience.
*Think on this, just like t.v./the media would be the worst source to reference when forming your opinion of Blacks/AA as a whole, the same can be said about those with alternative lifestyles. There's almost always angle being worked to show those who aren't mainstream in a negative light, regardless of the facts.
Category Manager for a Soda Water company :) i make sure you colored folk have all the Nehi Peach and Tahitian Treat you can stand.. LOL
Sorry, this is a judgmental society. Everyone pre-judges whether or not they realize it. Blonde or kool-aid colored hair, gold teeth, extreme tats, anything that falls in those categories, I'm judging.
Argh, let me try this again...
Unless you live an alternative life
style, neck tats are bad move. That said, why must we be so harsh?
Not. Gonna. Happen.
Yeah right!!! :-P
But uh, ur - this iz Black n Bougie not Black n Pole Dancing? Do you but not ev'thang iz fo ev'body.
I don't take issue with you finding it hard to believe a corporate individual would have a neck tat, I take issue with the person with a neck tat being delegated as a street walker, dancer or drug dealer (a few of our societies lowest regarded occupations).
Why can't they be an artist, musician, model, or professional athlete? I personal know more of those types with a neck tat than anything else. Better yet, why couldn't it just be said that you couldn't imagine a corporate career person thinking a neck tat is a goo idea and leave it at that?
*shrugs* I'm obviously biased, but while I do side eye people with neck tats myself, that alone does not lead me to conclude the worst. Like the woman mentioned in Black Butterfly's post, I may just conclude it was an unfortunate decision made in the past that has no bearing on who they are today.
I second what GAM said!
I would love for black people to stop seeing themselves through a prism that was created during an archaic time period and by a group of people that did not and will not have our best interests at heart EVER.

Come on Riley, you seem so interesting! I think you should go a guest post - All About Riley: From Cali to NYC.
I know a bougie chick who owns and runs a very successful pole dancing studio. Was going to partner with her and her husband to open one or two in L.A. (bad timing)...If I shared my comment with her, she would have laughed too. I have a cousin whose nickname is Candy, she's probably never seen a pole.
If the shoe fits, wear it...If your toes get stepped on, say "ouch!"...Yada yada yada...It is what it is!
I know someone who got one at 40! o_O
Aw Jamie, sorry it didn't happen when you were here! *points finger of blame at TIH* LOL
I'm certainly not saying everything is for everybody, I'm saying why the need to not merely disagree with someone eelse's tastes, but them down for it?
"If the shoe fits, wear it...If your toes get stepped on, say "ouch!"...Yada yada yada...It is what it is! "
I agree. I just figured I'd say something since it's Open Mic day and all. If it was really that big of a deal I would have said something about it before now or, better yet, find a different blog to frequent.

Best Life = working towards creating that. Best Self = still on that journey. That said, I don't have any problems with where I'm at now.
One part is the fact that I have a clear idea where I want to be, a plan to get there, and I'm making good progress towards that goal. The last part is, I do my own research then make decisions that are in my best interest. As a result, 1. I have no reason to relish in what woulda coulda or shoulda been,
because I know I made the best decision based on the information I had
before me and 2. since *I* make the choices that shape my life and *I* live with the consequences (good and bad), I consider but ultimately don't care what others think.
I went home to Louisiana over the weekend and bought 3 - 12 packs of Nehi peach soda....Judge away! LOL

Why not? Are you shy?
I vote face tattoos as the worst. I'm somehow shocked every single time I run into a person with one. My brain immediately goes into "Really??" mode. As in really person, all the things you could have spent that money on, all the places you could have put that tattoo in and you come up with a face tattoo? Just really. SMH Unless you were born and raised in a tribe somewhere where that is the norm, I really don't understand what would make a person want to put a tattoo on their face.

Candy's mother needs to be slapped if that's what's on her birth certificate. Give your child -- especially a female child -- a name with some dignity that doesn't sound like she will be waiting tables her whole life. You don't see Candice Bergen letting anyone call her Candy, do you. Not one of the 15-ish female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies uses a diminutive, and there's a reason for that.
i do indeed like TIH...i could use the tips! ;)

Do you sell your products directly to consumers? I sew. Do you have a website? Since people listed their blogs, I hope Chele thinks it's ok to give the URL for the site if you have one.
I'm late but Sasha... I feel where you are coming from and I understand that this is Black n' Bougie. I think in the rules or what qualifies a person as bougie or whatever the post was, there was a blurb about bougie not being rude or nasty...unless it is. (very loose paraphrasing, forgive me) So... I find that kind of comes with the territory when you log in here sometimes, as well as anywhere else.
What does get me tho'...is that sometimes a person gets ripped to shreds in here, based on someone elses POV and then a person in Bougieland will exhibit the same actions/behavior/comments and that person will get a pass because of flowery language, or economic standing. Ratchet is less ratchet because of Steve Madden's/Louboutin's? Thirsty is less thirsty because of Lalique vs red cup? That would be my one point of contention, but it's not a big deal, 'tis life.

Ummm...can the DMV folks plan a meetup? I'd like to put names with faces. Pretty please...since I'm a newbie to the BnB fam on Chele's spot, I won't volunteer to plan but I don't mind at all. Who all lives in the 'urreah'?

Did someone say Lauriol Plaza? Yes, indeed! Yummo! I've never been to Los Tios, but any place that serves a good traditional margarita is good with me. Let's do it! *waving back* tenderheart93@gmail.com

I didn't know there were that many DMV people here. But don't ask me to plan cuz I'on know much about the area (even though I've been here a minute O_o).

I'm contemplating investing in a doctorate, too. There's a great program at UMCP, and I'll be doing informational interviews there this fall.
What are you considering for your doctoral work?
Hi Angel! Good luck on that...wooooooot! By the way, did you hear that there may be a merger between UMCP and UMB? A study is being conducted on the feasibility, which for all intent and purpose, makes sense.
Anyhoo.
I'm thinking of the Management program at UMUC or a DPA (doctorate of public admin).
Hi Penny - I don't have a web site as yet, but I'm slowly working to get one up by the beginning of next year. As it is now, I get the vast majority of my work through referrals - interior designers and past clients.
I'm down too, DMV! TDHRHRT, lemme know when it is :) (u know who this is...)
I'm down for the DMV meet and greet. My coworker also!
I've also been to a couple of good events in the upstairs loft of Busboys and Poets on 5th and K.
I'm in NC ... but unless things have changed drastically, your database(s) can be accessed from anywhere -- it's all in the settings :). Out of curiosity are you Nielsen or IRI clients?
Afternoon BougieLand!
DMV folks...some planning underway for a Meetup! If interested, please email me at sweetorchidpearl[at]gmail[.]com or TNDRHRT via her email address below/above in the respective comment thread. Looking forward to getting our Bouge on! :)
