Saturday Music Spotlight: New Brian McKnight

I'm a Brian McKnight fan from way, way back in the day. To his credit, he's had a lot more hits than misses. So a few weeks back when I heard his distinctively soulful but pure tones on the radio, I stopped to take a listen. Wait... was that some autotune mixed in? Am I hearing that right? With BMcK? Why, King Jesus? He can actually sing! Le Arrgh!

Anyway, I heard Fall 5.0 (boo for the title)  a few more times and it started to grow on me. His new album, Just Me (combination of new songs and reworked classics), is available now. Here's the video for the first single, tell me what you think.

Okay, he has lost some of his sexy but tell me what you think of song and video.

I like the video (maybe it's because it quenches my adult ADD...). Song would grow on me too, but  I'm not crazy about the slight auto-tune/T-Pain undertone, but I'd give it a 7.

First,  I'm a huge Brian McKnight fan from back in the day since I saw introduced on Arsenio Hall.  But I am not feeling this song because I think the music is taking center stage over his voice.  He has a voice!  Auto tune needs to D-I-E.  The video seems okay but nothing that really connects me to the song or to him at all.

I will give it a chance because how can I not... its BRIAN McKNIGHT!

Whenever I hear an artist that can really sing use auto tune, I want to grab them by the collar and shake the ish out of them and ask what in the hell are you doing??? You can sing. Like you can REALLY sing. Auto tune is for people that can just carry a tune or can't sing worth a lick.   Now I have to put Brian in the same category I put BeBe & CeCe Winans with their last CD.  The "You're a great singer, but obviously you've forgotten so let me remind you" category.  That being said, the music was too loud and the style wasn't his own.

It's got something. It's not up to his standards but it's got something. It might grow on me.

My love for Brian McKnight is a tad unnatural...so my loyalty runs deep. I like the song. I agree it's autotuned where it doesn't need to be. The lyrics are pretty, he's a very talented writer.

As for the video, yeah, a lot going on. But he had his shirt off. That's where my focused stayed. The end!

I'm a Brian McKnight fan from way back in the day when he was just a regional guy playing small venues down south. Saw him at an album signing while on vacation down there.  I venture to say he was happily married back then.  As for this song, I didnt even know he had a new album out until I heard he was playing a small venue here in the DMV with his brothers this weekend.

My review ?  The song can grow on me, but me no likey the video. Tryna figure out how the lyrics and the video meet ?  And,  didnt Jay Z killed autotunes last year..?
