I can readily admit that I'm getting to that point where I look at top 20 countdown of artists and have to ask "Who's that?" or say "That's just awful" or "Whatever happened to REAL music?" No doubt every generation goes through it. All of that to say there was nothing on the countdown I wanted to shout out. So let's go back. When live performances didn't make you cringe and you could sing along with your grandma and your little niece no drama or explanations needed. Le Sigh. It's hard to pick a favorite Luther song but this one
is near the top of my list:
What's your favorite Luther song?

'Anyone Who Had a Heart' is one of my favorites.
My favorite Luther song is "Superstar", with "Creep" coming in second place.
I've never heard Luther's version of "If This World Were Mine", But Alicia Keys and Jermaine Paul do a beautiful rendition of it on the So Amazing CD.
Happy Saturday!
Too many to name but... 'So Amazing' is number one with me and there's 'Never Too Much', 'Here and Now', 'If This World Were Mine' and so many more!
Ah, Luther. So many memories. I saw him at Essence Music Festival in 2000 and I was impressed. I sang "So Amazing" at a wedding years ago. He had too many great covers to choose from.
Aw, my favorite artist of all time. I saw him live about 20 years ago and he didn't disappoint. I loved him so much, that when he died, I shed some tears!!
Favorite songs - Superstar, The Night I Fell in Love, Better Love, Don't You Know That, Give me the Reason, House is not a Home and so many others!

I have a particular weakness for Bad Boy

Ms. Jasmin, I love ya like a play daughter but don't let nobody catch you comparing Sir Luther and Cheryl Lynn to Alicia and Jermaine. No ma'am.

Luther. Never. Fails.
Doesn't matter what the mood in the room is, Luther comes on and everybody mellows. Great pic for a trifling winter Saturday Chele.
Hold up, Chele. I feel cheated. I know you got some kinda steamy-ass-steamy BougieTale about you and a Luther tune. Spill it...
(I would tell y'all my fave LV cut but you just gonna talk ish)
love love Luther! he was my mom's favorite artist so I grew up hearing all of his stuff. My favorite song is "Wait For Love" makes me emotional every single time I hear it.
He was featured on NPR this week. Goodness I heart him! My mom used to wear out his CDs in the car and drive us crazy when we were kids. it wasn't until I was 19 that I realized how great he was! I like Always and Forever, A house is not a home, and just about everything he sung.
My Sensitivity <-- story of my life
(not to be confused with R Tresvant's Sensitivity - whole other vibe)
My absolute favorite is The Other Side of the World. Makes me pause whatever I'm doing when I hear it.
Who hasn't waited in the car for Luther to finish - Sing It For Me 4x: Creep.Creep.Creep.Creep!
Love love love me some Luther!!! Saw him live once, he is So Amazing! I was so sad when he died, but it broke my heart when I heard Patti LaBelle talking about losing him as a friend/brother and how sad it was for his mother. That had me in tears.
Superstar is my fav. I need to bust out Luther for the holidays.

Duly noted, Miz BB. :-)
So many amazing Luther classics (pun intended) but "So Amazing" has definitely got to be in his top 3. No question.
I heard the NPR feature too. I was just about to get out of the car when I heard the strains of "Here and Now" (my first dance song). I had to turn up the radio and have a driveway moment.

You have got to have one of the most entertaining blogs I've come across. LOVE IT!!!!
I agree with you regarding todays music. I rarely listen to music anymore and there used to be a time when I NEVER turned off my radio. I've always love So Amazing, but I think Superstar has got to be one of my favorite Luther songs.
there has been and I don't believe ever will be, someone to match Luther.
I could play ' A House is not a Home' on an endless loop and never get tired of it.
Chele, you done started something. Well, I clicked on a Luther link (in this post). When I heard this one song, my body started doing the smirf. Yeah, I said the SMIRF. Now mind you, I said "my body" because my legs and feet could no longer do the damn dance :-)
So, since I don't like pain and frustration, I clicked on one of my favorites... If Only For One Night.
It's been awhile since I've stopped by, but as usual, you keep it poppin'

I truly love me some Luther! My favorite song is 'Anyone who had a Heart' I Love that song! Love it!
Welcome!
Best part of the song!
For steamy-ass-steamy... buy a book. ;-)
I read somewhere that the piano line in Promise Me was set up to mimic a heartbeat. How brilliant is that?
I love Luther Vandross and all his songs, but this one holds a special place in my heart because this was my wedding song so I am really fond of this song.
Ive been rocking "Never Too Much" for the past few days.
But Im the ultimate STAN for Luther! We got the same birthday and as far as I know, I was the youngest person to act a plain fool when he died.
"Never Too Much" is undoubtedly my favorite Luther jam. It's kind of hard for me to pick just one, considering how many classics he has.
