Saturday Video Shout-Out: Backdoor Santa

What y'all know about Clarence Carter's Back Door Santa? I will admit to singin' along to this song as child with no clue what I was singin' about. Now that I have a clue, I'm sending side-eye to BougieParents for giggling at me. Enjoy~

Any holiday song shout outs?

I grew up with the Soul Christmas album/CD. A holiday staple in the household. I made my Christmas playlist on my iPod today (I titled it Christmas Wasted). This song came up and I want to thank you for giving me an excuse to share. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehBwM0a9Hf8

I grew up to this one, it's a classic! And of course, Donny's This Christmas
(People really need to quit remaking it)

Ugh, Backdoor Santa is on my list of worst Christmas songs ever right along with Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto and Santa Claus is a Black Man. I do get my mashed potato on to Carla Thomas' Gee Whiz, It's Christmas though.

I love my Jackson 5 songs like Santa Claus is Coming to Town and I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. I still sing along to their version of Little Drummer Boy. But the Temptations Silent Night is beautiful! But why is it when I was little, my uncle would get drunk and sing this song to us kids while trying to do all the parts and saying stuff like "Silent Night Holy Night, dammit! The savior was born on this f$*%ing day. YEAH!" Nothing like watching a grown-A man have to get sent to bed before we had to go to bed.

Everything off of the 1973 A Motown Christmas. That was my growing up staple. Someday at Christmas, Ave Maria, My Favorite Things, Give Love on Christmas Day, Silent Night. I know the arrangements by heart and the order they come in. Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, Temptations, Smokey, Supremes. Not Christmas until I hear it.

It's just not Christmas time to me until I hear Donny Hathaway sing "This Christmas". As a matter of fact, I think I'll go to YouTube and listen to it right now.
