This week's pet peeves - Book Throwers, Favre & Recession TV

Well, every now and then I feel compelled to vent. Here's what has the steam coming out of my ears today:

1. Dude decided to chuck book at Prez 44 at a rally in Philly? He was described as an "overexuberant" Obama supporter who merely wanted to make sure that the president had a copy of his book. Is that how it's done? If I grab a copy of my book and chuck it at the President, you think they are going to let me go? I'm not half-sure I believe his story anyway. Seriously? Who is stupid enough to think throwing a book at the President is the best way to get his attention? Especially if you look at the footage... Barack didn't even acknowledge it.

2. Brett Freakin' Favre. Ugh. I haven't told the story of why I really, really dislike this megalomaniacal ass-grabber. Perhaps me using the term megalomaniacal ass-grabber gives you a clue? No it wasn't my ass he was attempting to grab. Mr. Favre can go kick rocks. I was not the least bit surprised that someone slapped him with a sexual harassment allegation. (<~~Not Safe For Work) But I am surprised (well, no I'm not) that Grandpa Favre isn't getting the full Tiger treatment. Will it take 12 more women stepping up with allegations? (I would bet there are quite a few) Again, just Ugh.

3. What is with some of these reality TV shows? As if to make you feel better about being so po', they have created a group of what I called Recession TV shows. TruTV has two shows: Operation Repo about car repossessions and Hardcore Pawn about a pawn shop in Detroit (where some chick tried to pawn her drawers according to the commercial). There's Till Debt Do Us Part a CNBC show about debt consolidation. How damn depressing is that?

Got any thoughts about these topics or peeve of your own to share? The floor is yours...

There are now reports that the book thrower did it for money. Some billionaire who was trying promote his website offered a million dollars to anyone who would do it. I mean after he prosecuted and embarrassed is the million (if he even gets it) really worth it.

ASmith said...

Brett can sho 'nuff kick rocks. For a million reasons.

TruTV makes me sad. They were better as CourtTV especially since all their reality shows are fakes. Re-enactments (which I'm sure are exaggerated for dramatic purposes) of "real" events. No thanks.

Javalicious said...

Why would you throw a book at the President for ANY reason? That's the stupidest thing I ever heard of. Chele, you might not wanna try that one.

FreeBlackMan said...

I got nothing on the bookchucker I can't fathom that level of ignorance. But am I side-eyeing the Secret Service. What if it was something more dangerous than a book? Or a book with some chemical on it to harm POTUS? Step up your game Secret Service.
Never a Favre fan. Anytime someone tries that hard to give off that "aw shucks good old boy routine" I'm suspect.
Did you say somebody tried to pawn their drawers on TV?

Dr. Peppa said...

Just once I wish I was in the crowd when someone tried to get out of pocket on POTUS.
I'm sorry I ever clicked the link. If that truly is his junk, I wouldn't send that to anybody. Ever,
I need to get on that "Debt" show, for real.

Book dude - someone should've beat his ass right there on the spot.
Favre - that's nasty, dude
Recession TV (Love the phrase) I agree it's way out of control. On the other end of the scale is Platinum Weddings where people spend half a million dollars on flowers for one day - crazy!

Man's World said...

I was a Favre fan from way back but the retiring, unretiring, yearly Favre Watch shenanigans just got to be too damn much. It hinted of massive ego and selfishness. I didn't know about the ass-grabbing but now that you mention it... doesn't surprise me.

See your peeves, raise you mine
1. Political commercials right now - doing the very most
2. The Eddie Long scandal - he needs to just come clean or get a gag order on folks
3. My bank - exactly 12 months after I opened my no fee account, guess what - fees?!

My two cents.

MeetCharlieL said...

This right here.

MeetCharlieL said...

It's the unequal handling by the media that ticks me off. Ben Ro grabs I don't know how many asses and he gets slap on the wrist. Vick pisses off PETA and he goes to jail and labeled Satan's spawn.
Tiger cheats and gets accused of sex addiction, Brett is sending pitiful wang pics and he's a legend?
GTFOH.

LikeLena said...

I agree about TruTV, I only watch the old CourtTV shows - Forensic Files and Dominick Dunne.

LikeLena said...

It's like two different worlds, right! The one where someone decides that spend $1MM on one day is a great investment and the one where a car gets repo'd because she thought her boyfriend was making the payments.

LikeLena said...

My bank just came up with some new magical fees - the phone teller charge. If you call in and get a human to help you with a transaction - they charge you a service fee.

Mr. Skyywalker said...

Preaching to the choir. The great white QB can do NO wrong as long as he's filling stadiums. The networks been jockriding Brett for a long time, they are not going to get off until he gets carted off the field (the only way he'll retire).

rozb said...

I totally concur!

rozb said...

Between Platinum Weddings and Bridezillas, the showcasing of excessive spending on over-the-top affairs and god-awful behavior is beyond crazy now!

daisy said...

My peeve - global warming/climate change whatever you want to call it that causes it to be 92 three days ago, torrential rain yesterday and 48 this morning.
As you say, Chele - I call bullshiggity on this weather.

Jesse said...

Who does that Exterminator reality show - that is just doing way too much.

Jesse said...

They were pitiful! Like really dude? That was supposed to entice her to drop everything and met you at the hotel?

Jesse said...

Chele - what did you think about the Randy Moss/Tom Brady beef?

OneChele said...

Brady is a prima donna, Moss is a diva. These two were beefing over hair. Hair!
Brady wanted Moss to shave, Moss told Brady to get a haircut.
That's SO not gangster.

OneChele said...

Mother Nature is a tad moody this month.

OneChele said...

I can't watch Hoarders - makes me itch. It's part of what I call Pathology TV. The addiction shows and OCD show and rehab show - do we just want to see people mentally breakdown on TV?
I hear K-CI and Jo-Jo have a rehab show... I'm done.

OneChele said...

Wedding shows are everywhere. I keep wanting them to do follow up shows to see how many of these couples are still together.

OneChele said...

I'm afraid so. A sister girl went in and tried to hock her Vicki's.
A classic for the S.No.B. (So Not Bougie) files.

OneChele said...

Yes, I decided that wasn't the best course of action.

OneChele said...

It's on A&E and you know how I feel about the creepy crawlies - can't watch it.

OneChele said...

I love those shows.

rozb said...

Is that what it all boiled down to - HAIR?!?!?!? Two men in a Friday Night Sissy Fight over hair - maybe they'll scratch each other's eyes out the next time their teams meet...

rozb said...

K-Ci and Jo-Jo? Although they needed some kind of intervention, I'm not sure a reality show will help. Just a way to get some sort of cash flow, I guess :/

Carey Jackson said...

It's my belief that the sending of the naked peen pics when a woman has not requested them is the worst move ever. Don't Sext Me, Bro.

rozb said...

Especially the Bridezilla shows. The behavior of the women on the show - can somebody really be marrying these trifling-A heffas?!?!? Wooo-saaaa...okay, I'm back.

rozb said...

Give me Forensic Files any day over the TruTV shows.

Carey Jackson said...

Wait - off topic - I just noticed you made a "Thirsty isn't sexy" mug on the sidebar! And you put the Kool-aid dude on there! LOL - I'm buying it. Chele why is it $20?! Getting it anyway. Damn a recession. Ha. Love it.

OneChele said...

Yes I did. Sorry, I don't control pricing. Zazzle has to get their cut ;-)

CaliGirlED said...

RIGHT!!! No fees to now fees if the balance falls below a certain amount!

rozb said...

I wish I could find the clip from the Chappelle Show's gay occupation episode, where they aired the "Friday Night Sissy Fights". Too funny...

rozb said...

They were disrespectful the second he got elected. Never mind the fact that ish was screwed up before him, and it takes more than 2 years to fix over 8 years of F-ups...

rozb said...

And these guys were handling them? Ick. :-{

Pure Choco said...

Just say NO to sexting - Chele can we get a T-shirt?

♞ they call me kj ♞ said...

ahh...Ben had no convictions (say what you want, i personally believe something went down, but *innocent until proven guilty* exists for a reason) and he got a 4 game suspension from the NFL. Vick actually was convicted of a crime, and served time. while PETA was extra...then again...it's PETA *MossShrug*

quick note: heard anything about Santonio Holmes?

i think there is a double standard in the handling of Favre, but a) there needs to be charges/a trial...and i think the media is slowing starting to question the double standard (for example, on First Take - ESPN2 there was a discussion on why Wrangler was still putting out commercials with Brett Favre)

CaliGirlED said...

One pet peeve I have is when you ask someone if they're sure about a decision they made and they say, "Yeah I prayed about it". Did you really, or is that just your way of telling me to mind my own business?

Me: Are you sure you're ready to move out?
Friend: Yeah I prayed about it.
Me: *side-eye* Ok

I mean if she prayed about it and God told her to move in with her unemployed boyfriend, who am I to say different???...But then two days later you're calling me to give you a ride from your job to your new place, with your man, who don't have a car or a job, and you're depending on a co-worker you just met to take you back and forth...

Wooosaaa!!! Thanks for letting me vent Bougieland!

actually til debt has been on for a minute, its a Canadian show and its been on for about two maybe three years on american tv but its has six seasons so more than that on the Canadian channels , i love watching the show because she makes them look at the long haul as well as show them how their habits are costing them

Aisha said...

I think the fact that they are talking about mental illness is good, the dramatics sometimes aren't really needed but Im glad they are talking about something everyone has had to deal with, and help change people's perspectives about getting help whether its for them or a family member, and showing how the disease affects more than just the person helps those who are dealing with their family members breakdown.Im for one glad that they have blacks on there because the black community likes to as the old folks love to say "keep from airing the dirty laundry in public" maybe if people see there is no stigma around getting help more people will get it when they need it. But that could just be the medical professional in me talking

CaliGirlED said...

Vick did the crime and the time. Why try to block him from getting back to work? Ben's returning without a fuss, Brett played, no protests. IJS

GrownAzzMan said...

I would actually watch just to see that. It must have been hilarious.

GrownAzzMan said...

CaliGirl, Its all about priorities. Brett and Ben we smart enough to mess with woman. This allows for the ever convenient 'boys will be boys' excuse. Most of the the owners and probably the commish have done similar or worse. Vick on the other had messed with dogs and nothing gets America's undies in a bunch faster then someone hurting Fido. SMDH!

1. The guy chucking a book at the President just demonstrates how high the level of disrespect for the office of POTUS has grown since President Obama's election. I have "conservative" folks (interpret as you will) that say that things are no different than when GWB was in office and I tell any of them to point out when there was a rally to call Bush Hitler, a communist/socialist, or witch doctor - and show pictures of him dressed as such. Then the foolishness that is the Tea Party is beyond outrageous - the things they are angry about existed long before 2008, but they chose this election to organize and spew Palin/Beck-like drivel all over the place. Say what you want about the policies of the POTUS, or even his behavior, but show some respect and class for his office and position. I didn't like having a shoe thrown at the president of my country, and I don't like the disrespectful nature of political discourse now (hear that, Joe "You Lie!" Wilson?)

2. Brett Favre - ugh to him and his saggy "parts". I am not surprised at his behavior, but this is typical of the uneven treatment Black and White athletes receive. For instance, Rothlisberger has been accused a few times of sexual misconduct and his behavior toward women, even rape, and yet, he is back out there, not behind bars or kicked off his team - just missed some games. Michael Vick did some cruel and heinous things to dogs and gambling (not on football, mind you), but rather than allow him to receive just counseling, fines, and community service, they booted him off his team, put him behind bars, and shunned him as if he was a raging slobbering maniac. Even Stevie Wonder can see the inequities of treatments given athletes of different ethnic and racial makeup.

3. What is reality? It sure as H&!! ain't a Housewives show or a Kardashian special or Operation Repo, where these folks play to the cameras and exaggerate their "everyday lives" to pander to the networks or a fan base. Now look at a show like A&E's Hoarders and you will have hit a reality mother lode. We all know of someone who has gone beyond packrat status and has moved up that big chain of crazy. That show makes me clean out closets and cabinets every time I get a chance to see it, even if I don't have much to throw away.

Pure Choco said...

Bought it!

GammasWorld said...

Missed #1 completely ... but you are correct in not tossing a book to POTUS. Wish you'd toss one my way though cause this waiting list at the library is ticking me off :).

#2 - If that's all he had is he really surprised chicky didn't take him up and that's all I have to say about those pics. Grandpa won't get the Tiger treatment until more women come forward (and I think they will).

#3 - About those recession TV shows -- you know how much they're paying per episode? Just askin (need to generate another income stream - lol). Seriously, I've only seen the Til debt do us part a couple of times but I don't think it's new.

baileyqc said...

I'm going to have to double endorse your Number One here. We sat respectfully listening to that Bush idiot for 8 years while he lied, cheated and robbed the country blind. People can't afford this President a little respect for trying to do the right thing?

Carey Jackson said...

Slap fight?

CaliGirlED said...

Say it ain't so!

Stank_0 said...

Oh hayell naw! Drop them, early! That's a #swindle if I ever seent one. (Yes seent).

This is patently ridiculous. You are going to charge me to talk to you about my own money? WDDDA

I'm seriously heated. Let me hear that BoA tryin to pull that type of stunt. I'll call them and cancel the same day. Now you messing with the money.

Aisha said...

thats why there have been a few were the brides get left at the altars BABABABABBA good if your more worried about the look of your dress than the state of your relationship you deserve to get left. i hate these shows because the stuff they teach younger women that's its ok to get outta pocket its your wedding day!!

GrownAzzMan said...

1. Book throwing, really?? Where is the video of the Secret Service beatdown which I am sure ensued? SMH
2. Why does anyone ever leave a voice mail these days? I would be harder on Brett but I guess he left these TWO YEARS AGO. Allegedly. Or in other words BT (Before Tiger) Note to playas everywhere, just hang up. This means you too Jerry Brown! LOL
Side note on Farve, no claim of sexual harassment has been filed. All we have so far is an un-authenticate voice mail which at most would indicated a married man tryinta get some. Shady maybe, criminal not likely.
3. I.Dont.Watch.Reality.TV.

maureen palmer said...

1. That was crazy, I did not believe him when he said he was a fun.
2. SMH, when are folks going to learn
3. I can't with reality shows. I tried watching Chili's and Fantasia but could not get pass 2 episodes. Manufactured drama.

Kimistry101 said...

What about the Chilean Miners? The wives and the mistresses have been fighting amongst themselves while the miners were "safe" being stuck in the mine...lol

YardieChicie said...

1. Yea. Right.
2. I have no idea who this is. I guess that's a good thing.
3. All the more reason for me to 'bun out' reality shows and invest that time in good books. Not only do I think those shows are a waste of time, but 'reality' tv is such a misnomer. Ain't nutten real 'bout dat shiggity!

YardieChicie said...

Are you serious? O_O

Kimistry101 said...

@Yardie Chick--yes maam. It's been in the news how at least five wives have found out their husbands have mistresses and they are fighting over the compensation that the miners would received and at the mine site waiting for thier "love one" to be rescued...lol..

LaTreen said...

Seriously? Who is stupid enough to think throwing a book at the President is the best way to get his attention? Easy question; Answer is a "Obama Supporter"

CaliGirlED said...

That's crazy! But I wish I would argue with a beyotch about MY husband's money, you gets NONE! End.Of.Discussion.

YardieChicie said...

How in the hell can miners afford mistresses? I doubt they make enough to support their wives, yet they took on side-pieces? Ballsy.

Either way, if I were one of those wives, I can guarantee my husband would wish they left him down in that mine shaft.

Kimistry101 said...

Exactly!! LOL

CorettaJG said...

So tired of Favre. Truly. All that drama (again) before the season for this foolishness.
