Outlaw: B- I like Jimmy Smits, I always have. Even though the premise of a gambling, whorish conservative Supreme Court justice stepping down to do good works is um... a stretch; it's well written with thought-provoking topics. Hat tip to RZA from Wu-Tang for his guest appearance in the first episode. Not bad at all. I watched the pilot and the first episode and enjoyed them. They didn't blow me away but I can see the potential for pretty good TV here. I'll keep watching.
Boardwalk Empire: A- Really well done look at Prohibition-Era gangsterism in Atlantic City. I gave them the minus because with the exception of dude who played Omar and a maid... where the black people at? Black folks need a sip too. It's HBO - I'll keep watching.
The Event: C- I was confused and felt undereducated. I don't need a TV show to make me feel intellectual inferior, I have Pegroes (Pretentious Negroes) on Twitter for that. The timeline bounced around and the Black president isn't Black but Cuban. I was good and truly Lost (pun intended) by the time the actual "event" took place. It's not good to watch 58 minutes of TV and all you have to say is - Huh? Be that as it may, I'm going to try and give it one more week. Damn my loyalty to Blair Underwood.
Detroit 187: B- NYPD Blue it is not. And I don't like cop dramas that make me suspend all disbelief while calling bullshiggity at the same time. SuperCop (played by Michael Imperioli) uses the silent treatment to get a hardened brother to give up every crime he's committed since thrid grade? And talks down a hostage situation? For real though? The soundtrack was excellent, the cinematography made Detroit look like a bad day in East Beirut during Desert Storm and some of the characters were too formulaic. Crotchety wizened old vet ready to retire (classic Murtaugh), fiesty female lieu with kids at home (classic Van Buren), racially ambiguous hot chick everybody's half in love with, semi-hot guy they aren't sure what to do with yet. I'll give it one more week.
Undercovers: A Loved it. It's Hart to Hart dipped in chocolate with gadgets and whatnot. If you're not old enough to remember Hart to Hart, get thee to TVLand. First of all, the two leads (Boris Kdjoes and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) are right nice to look at. I can't even hate on that woman, she is bad. The plot was nice, the timing and pacing worked and the chemistry was abundant. Things blew up and went boom. Great to see Gerald McRaney playing the stern company red, white and blue man that he does so well. I was impressed with this one all the way around. I'll be tuning in.
The Defenders: F Two minutes in, I turned away. No thank you. Y'all aren't hot or funny. It's not working.
The Whole Truth: D Ten minutes in, I was done. I didn't like the chemistry between Maura Tierney and the other dude and since they are the main characters... that was that. No more please.
My Generation: D It's like the bad, slow predecessor to Thirtysomething... and that's not a good thing. Angsty late twenty-somethings with a lot of yada yada going on. It's hard to gibbadam. Done with that one.
Better with you: F Terrible. I can't even talk about it.
Hawaii 5-0: D Sis and I call it Hawaii 5 - No! Doing too much. We thought the episode was over at the 34 minute mark, but no... there was more. And it required the hot chick to strip to her drawers. This is a Banana Boat suntan lotion commercial with crime sprinkled in. Skipping it.
Blue Bloods: C Great cast starting with Tom Selleck who has aged quite nicely. The family theme was a little overdone (interwoven plots where members of the family came in regular contact with each other daily). But the story lines were compelling, the banter was well done and they sprinkled some diversity into the mix. Overall not bad, I'll catch it when I have time but it's not must see.
So what new shows did you watch? What did you like? Why? What will you watch again? Did I miss something amazing?

I only watched Undercovers and The Event. I'm gonna watch again this week because I need a second glance for both. I will say with Undercovers, I dig gorgeous and glossy, but as first impressions go I was not fully impressed. I can't wait for The Good Wife to start again on Tuesday.
I'd give "The Whole Truth" a C.
I loved Undercovers and will definitely keep watching. The Event was so disappointing to me. It was like watching a variation of Lost, the first episode all over again. Liked Blue Bloods and may continue watching. I could not even go beyond minute 5 of Hawaii 5-0. Except for Boardwalk Empire which I have yet to watch, clips of all the other shows left me empty so I will not be investing any of my time on any of them.
The new season of Dexter is back, and I had to watch how they were going to tie up his wife's death. Yup - got a lot going on, so I won't ruin it for anyone who wants to catch it later.
Like you I tried The Event, and I felt like my IQ went backwards a notch. It seemed like it was over my head, or I blinked and there was something else going on.
The new season of Criminal Minds has be back on Wednesdays now, as I was watching Ion and A&E to get my fix.
Fell asleep on Undercovers and Hawaii 5-0. Big tremendous yawn. I think a lot of the new shows are trying to do too much.
This new batch of shows is kind of disappointing.
Last year we had Community, Modern Family, The Good Wife etc.
Undercovers was okay, I won't be watching it every week but I'll probably catch up at the end of the year. The Event ............ no.
The new batch of fall shows is kinda 'meh' - I liked Undercovers but nothing else caught my attention. I'm waiting for Good Wife and CSI Miami to come back.
"I don't need a TV show to make me feel intellectual inferior, I have Pegroes (Pretentious Negroes) on Twitter for that." And. I. Died! Classic...
I missed EVERYTHING (damn school) but I'm glad to hear that Undercovers was good. I'm not with The Event... they were doing the most in the ads...
thanks for sharing I didnt catch any of these because I was watching my shows House (Im a nurse), NCIS (what can I say military fam) GLEE (guilty pleasure) and Gossip Girl ( I will deny this thought, but its good), can't wait for Hawthorne (love Jada) to return) and thats about it for me, but I think I will check out the ones you recommended thanks
Have a good day

The only new show I watched was My Generation. I only watched it because I was bored and I actually liked it. I really did not think I would, especially since they have my Husband Mehcad Brooks booed up and expecting with a melanin deficient girl. But seriously, I was thinking I would feel the way OneChele did, but surprise, surprise I loved it and will watch again.
Ok, I only watched three of these and I am basically underwhelmed with the new TV season. I didn't watch Hawaii 5-0 (5-NO!) although if the promise they are going to have a hot girl strip each week they just might get me vote. Maybe that can be their new marketing campaign...LOL
Here is what I saw:
Outlaw: I too am a Jimmy Smits fan from way back but the stretch premise is a problem for me. I will give it another episode or two but they better fix some of his loose ends.
Undercovers: First let me say British homegirl is fine! Nice Hart to Hart (or Mr. and Mrs. Smith) Premise. Cool to see black folks on tv doing things that don't emphasize that they are black folks. No 'urban' references so far. I will keep watching this one for a while. Did I mention that British homegirl if fine?
The Event: Note to writers, you are smarter then us. We get it. This one will need to be fixed stat for all the reasons Chele stated. I am week to week on this one. They better come correct tonight.
I am with you on The Good Wife. Do you think she stays with ol' boy?
Wasn't feeling the new shows. Are you going to watch L&O Los Angeles?
Since I have been with L&O from the beginning, I will give this one a try.
I watched some of the shows. Don't have premium cable so the new ones on cable I will miss out on. (Stop cable after The Wire).
Outlaw- Loved it (love Jimmy Smits since L.A. Law) it's a keeper.
The Event- (Bootleg Lost) couldn't get into it. wont be watching it.
Detroit 187- Okay, being a Detroiter, I think I did more analyzing the show than actually watching it. but I think I will keep it for now.
Undercovers- Well it has Boris Kodjoe..(what more is there to say. LOL) it's okay. definitely a filler till 9:00
The Defenders- Co-sign- I hated it!
The Whole Truth- I really like it. Gonna keep it for now.
Missed Better with you and H50. will try to catch this week.
BlueBloods- it was okay. I was intrigued. Will watch if it doesn't interfere with another show.
With my DVR bursting at the seams, I can't, in good conscious, add any new TV shows. But I might check out Undercovers with such rave reviews. I do love Boris...
I really don't know....that's a iffy one for me..i kinda hope so. I never did like her thing with Will. I was glad to see that the Kalinda Sharma character won a Golden Globe...she's soo cool.
I liked your Hart to Hart reference on Undercovers. I want the show make it so I'll definitely support it
I agree with you on Will. Seems kinda slimy to be making that move. I'm on team Peter. I agree with you about the actress who plays Kalinda!
Absolutely! For one, I LOVE Law & Order, and two, I'm from L.A. Should be interesting to see how they play out the crimes that took place in L.A. like they do the ones in New York. (Like the Night Stalker who was assaulted by an angry mob when they found out who he was. Kicked his ass! LOL)
Oh well, I really wanted to like Undercovers, but I am sorry, it sucked.
That fight scene with Boris and that guy on the roof was so contrived and ridiculous, I was embarrassed for both of them, especially Boris.
BUT, in my attempts to support increased colorization of network tv, I am obligated to watch another episode and give it one more chance.
Here's hoping for a better outcome!
My bad...I meant and Emmy not a GG...
The only show I got to see this week was the season opener of "Gray's Anatomy". I don't know if I like this whole PTSD storyline, the whole cast is crazy right now. Well. the wedding was quite interesting; I don't think it will last a hot minute. Let's see where they go this season.
Hmmm... TV. I love TV, I really do, but I rarely have time to watch more than one show. That said, I am really going to make an effort to catch Undercovers based on the buzz. It sounds like fun. I did watch the first episode of Boardwalk Empire. Liked it a lot and will watch again On Demand. Other than that, I will be sure to catch the "Jillian & Bob Torture Show" aka The Biggest Loser.
i watched raising hope after glee.
at first, i was like side-eying my TV HOIRD..but why was i laughing for 20 out of 30 minutes???
its frikin hi-larious! we need more laughter in the world!! and it's after glee!
I thought that Boardwalk was outstanding.
I liked Undercovers but I could not with Outlaw. Saw new Dexter - loved it!
I can't with Terrence Howard but let me know what you think about it!
And that's my other problem - Do I want to see more of The Event or Monday Night Football? DVR decisions...
Love that a grown azz man likes The Good Wife!
No conflict here on the best coast...LOL
I'm with you on Baby Wipes ruining a show for me. Won't be watching this variationg of L&O, and that's saying something cuz I will watch old L&O and SVU reruns all day and four times on Sunday.
Didn't watch any of these but have Undercovers on DVR -- somewhere. The one new show I watched and liked (LoneStar) is already on the death watch list so I think Imma stick with my old favs :) Imma give L&O LA a chance ... well just cuz I like L&O but I would be okay if they replaced Terrence say in the first episode -- I do not foresee him becoming a McKoy or Cabot.
You watch entirely too much television.
But thanks for the heads up.....I knew that Detroit 187 had to be some straight up BS.
"...the cinematography made Detroit look like a bad day in East Beirut during Desert Storm..."
I grew up watching Motor City's WXYZ/Channel 7 TV. That's what Detroit really looks like.
You are the first person (other than me) that I 'know' that loves Undercovers. My friends thought it was too cheesy but I LOVED IT!!! I guess I'm cheesy...
Since you didn't mention it I will. I caught S*&% my dad says and laughed through most of it. I was surprised but it actually was funny. I cared for a senior parent and old folks do and say this stuff.
Ha! I generally don't catch this much, just wanted to see what was new.
