Why Obama should just bounce.

Vanity Fair wrote a long, detailed article on all the shiggity our 44th President has to deal with right about now. Apparently, never in the history of the Presidency has there been one under this much duress, attack and financial uncertainty.

Washington, We Have a Problem

How broken is Washington? Beyond repair? A day in the life of the president reveals that Barack Obama’s job would be almost unrecognizable to most of his predecessors—thanks to the enormous bureaucracy, congressional paralysis, systemic corruption, and disintegrating media. Inside the West Wing, the author talks to Obama’s top advisers about the challenge of playing the Washington game, ugly as it has become, even while their boss insists they find a way to transcend it.
The article details the obstacles Obama faces including the fact that the GOP has decided to spend their time and efforts blocking his policies rather than getting anything done: the G.O.P. has spent most of the period since the inauguration in near lockstep refusal to give the president votes for any of his major initiatives, from the economic-stimulus bill to health-care reform.

A large portion of the media (talking heads) have decided to make names for themselves by saying the most inflammatory and incendiary thing possible (regardless of fact). The article says: He faces the most hyperkinetic, souped-up, tricked-out, trivialized, and combative media environment any president has ever experienced. The long-building trend toward coverage of the presidency and politics as pure sport has reached absurd levels. True.

Add to this the war, the economic forecast, the gulf coast drama, and countless other real-time problems the government is dealing with and all you can really say is, "Wow." I'm exhausted for him. He's in there battling and actually getting quite a bit accomplished yet his own countrymen are calling him everything but a child of God and plotting how to strip what accomplishments he has been able to make away from him. His wife can't take a vacation, he can't share a sports opinion and his daughters have to wear t-shirts without a hint of a slogan or brand. Seriously - who needs it?

I have a solution. I've decided Obama (called Obeezy in a recent Boondocks cartoon) is too good for this. He's too talented, intelligent and gentlemanly to be forced to shovel crap morning, noon and night. In a speech at Netroots Nation 2010, Van Jones said "Obama is the guy who volunteered to steer the Titanic after it had already hit the iceberg."

This is a sinking ship to which I tell Obama, "Save yo' self." In fact, I think he should call a press conference and pull a "JetBlue exit" - Step to the podium, turn on the mic, tell America to kiss his entire black ass, say "Obeezy out", grab a beer on the way and slide down the emergency exit chute flashing the peace sign the whole way out. I'd still respect the hell out of him. And Im dying to see who thinks they could do any better than him in this political and economic climate.

As someone on Twitter said yesterday - you can say all that you want about Obama but somebody still has to beat him in 2012... and no one's even close to the horizon. Bless his heart, he's out there fighting because he firmly believes he can make a difference for the better regardless of the personal cost to his well-being and peace of mind.

Just my little rant of the week. What do you think? Who's up in 2012? Is Obama fighting a losing battle? Would you want his job?

I'm really feelin you on this rant Chele, They really need to "fall off a brother" sometime I just wish he would go "south side" on their arses then maybe they would leave him alone. Hatin on Michelle because she is the best looking First Lady since Jackie O. Being that I do foreclosure prevention counseling, there are just a many Republicans who are losing their homes as Democrats, but they (Repubs) don't want to admit that their previous candidate set this whole ball into motion and they want to give him grief. Think they are upset now... in 2012 they are going to want to commit suicide cause he will be back. He has no competition from what I can see.

Poor "Obeezy" (hee hee hee) has grayed significantly since he's been in office! I agree that he is one of the more embattled to hold office - but I think he knew he would be before he decided to run. Now, I don't know that he could have predicted some of the sheer insanity that has been slung at him over the past few years...but I think he's smart enough to know that upon taking this job he would be under heavy fire...and I'm pretty sure he's up for the challenge.

Chele, I've never prayed (specifically) for the welfare and safety of a president and a nation as much as I have since President Obama took office to "steer the titanic after it already hit the iceberg" (just brilliant Van Jones!). And not because he's black or because he's a democrat, but because as much bridge-building and "change" as he's tried to enact since the 2008 election, it seems that there are those select few who insist upon and have taken a perverse pleasure in being completely disagreeable, even at the expense of the entire country. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!

Interesting post. I've been thinking of doing something similar to this. Shit is hectic enough out there without the guy having to deal with all of this ancillary garbage. I agree with you. Who the hell needs the headaches? I think he should fall back. Nothing he does will be good for anyone anyway.

I keep thinking how much worse off we would be right now with McCain or Hillary - can you imagine?!

The best thing about this post is that we can say this knowing that man will fight with his last breath to get this boat home safely (following the great Titanic analogy) knowing the best he can do is keep it afloat and wait for more life boats.

One of the things I admire about Obeezy is that he is the epitome of grace under pressure.

But I wouldn't have taken this job for anything in the world.

Aisha said...

i wouldn't want his job, I know he knew he would have some issues but i doubt he knew he was going to get hit with the whole farm of shiggity, he could have done with a shovelful, but this mess is too ridiculous . People just losing their minds, we have a Black man in power and God forbid anything goes right for him at all. They act as if they haven't had the last 400 years of getting to this point. did they really think it would never happen?

Joy Andrews said...

Agreed. He is so dedicated that we can make this joke knowing it will never happen

Joy Andrews said...

I truly believe he is a President that will only be truly appreciated by the masses after he's done (hopefully in 2012)

OneChele said...

I know I thought it wouldn't happen in my lifetime so no, they didn't think it would happen. :-)
He did get the whole farm, didn't he?

Mr. Skyywalker said...

Obeezy is dat dude. He stays cool no matter what they throw at him. At the end of the day, he runs the piece and until they come up with a credible opponent, he's going to continue to run this piece. You don't have to like him but you do have to call him Mr. President... for the rest of his days.

P.S. That Jet Blue press conference idea would be on point though!

Liselle said...

LOL at "Save yo' self"!

This article made me think though about what it must be like to be both the most hated and the most loved man in America.

There are days I wish he could call for a press conference and say "deuces b/c this bullshiggity right here is for the birds.” He knew what he was against (the establishment), he detailed some of it in "Audacity of Hope", and who can forget when ranking Republican Senate Kyle said they will do everything in their capacity to block his polices. Oh not to mention a crippled Congress.
I have read a few articles over there at Foreign Policy, Slate and Wapo, which have declared what one of them called "Obama's death" in reference to his policies. Any good historian will tell you Lyndon, Nixon, Reagan, George H, George W and Clinton, did not see much of their accomplishment until much later in their presidency. Not to mention, what Obama's administration has had to deal with at the onset. With that said, Robinson @ Wapo did a gr8 article today on what his administration has accomplished thus far.
Granted, WH, promised this summer as “job recovery summer”, but even the best economist can’t tell you when this thing will bottom out. Not to mention, what is happening in Europe, and we all know what the big elephant in the room, China, is doing. Yes, we might not see unemployment numbers in the 6% for another 2-3 years.
Unless another freak of nature happens (folk will be waiting to see how he reacts), I think he will be fine, especially if his admin can figure Afghanistan out (history tells us it is hard; Soviet failed invasion). Huffington post reported a plan B, which sounded gr8 on paper, hopefully they can execute it.

What'chu said, BnB; I've watched folks who swore up and down that President Obama was the "Great Black Hope" viciously turn on him -- without realizing how much he's truly up against, or realizing how governmental policy in the US works (slooooooowly). God forbid he's not re-elected -- we all know that much of his hard work during this term will manifest during that second term, and that whoever replaces him will be quick to claim credit for what he's fought so long and hard for (see GWB after Clinton).

I'm jes' sayin'.

I use to watch all the political shows on Sunday Morning, but now I find them to be a waste of time. I am frustrated and even angry that these people on these shows are talking about what the President has not done, could have done or should have done all while enjoying a cushy life and not doing a darn thing themselves to better their country or even community. Running your mouth does not count... at all. I firmly believe that if you are going to say something then do something!!!! Also, I really cannot believe how ridiculous the G.O.P. is, still!!! They would rather create opposition for a President and political party than participate in creating better lives for their fellow country men, the Greater Good!!!! WTF, and at the same time they are grooming Sarah palin to run in 2012, really, for real!!!! Lastly the thing that really gets me are all the red necks and lower income, even middle income white people who claim their allegiance to the GOP and even the Tea Party. They really do not get that they GOP is not checking for the poor or even middle class. All their policies are to protect personal wealth... for the wealthy!!! But folks just can't see the truth past their own ignorance and blind hate. If you make less than six figures son you cannot join their club, not really, but they will take your vote!!!! Wew, I could go on, that is my rant, that is all!!!

I've been inspired by our President since I first heard of him. I agree with you, OneChele. Obama should bounce, and then everyone will get the "Oh, sh*t" face because can't nobody do America like he does. And child, can't NOBODY beat him in 2012...not from what I've seen (sorry, I had to get a little down home, Southern with it...). And if by some slim chance someone does, they can't do half the things he's done.

Well, no matter what the pundits say, I am secure in saying that if it had not been for Obeezy, we would be in deep ish, indeed. I am thankful that he is "holding it down", but you have to wonder how he takes the abuse, day after day-verbal attacks on his wife, his policies, even his his style of dress- no other President in history has been this maligned, yet, he is loved by the majority of Americans who understand his adminstration is holding this together (by sheer will at this point). We must continue to pray as we never have before that he remains safe and is able to accomplish what he has set out to do.

i am mystified as to why the american public are so angry at this man, and giving him and his such a hard time! on the campaign trail, was he not brutally honest about how hard the road ahead was going to be? that's one of the things i really admired about him - the constant refrain of 'it's not going to be easy, but it can be done'....what on earth did people expect after 8 years of bush???????? it was disastrous, and disasters of that magnitude will be felt for years, even as they're getting fixed by the sane alternative....

i get to thinking that people really don't understand the sheer scale of disastrous governance of the bush era, and how he set your nation back.... i mean, even the nicest man in the world, our former president nelson mandela, called bush 'a foolish man who cannot think properly' - that says a lot, guys...

the world over celebrated the ascent of barack obama because it was an end to the lunacy of the bush era and the complete damage he did worldwide - you'd be amazed at how much US foreign policy has an effect on our everyday lived existences hundreds of thousands of kilometres away...

stick it out guys - no one said it would be easy - barack was clear that it was, in fact, going to be bloody difficult - but with him as your head of state, you're at least on the right path. do not falter - as a nation, you made the right choice in him, but you have to see your decision through...

michelle - i totally get why you wrote this post (it makes complete sense considering the nonsense the man and his family have to deal with) , but NONE of us, not americans or citizens of the rest of the world, can afford another republican in office.... please god, no!

OneChele said...

I can't watch the shows either, life is too short for that much anger.

It's frustrating to me that after listening to the bumbling, stumbling village idiot for 8 years no one gets what a massive upgrade Obama is for us nationally and globally - a much better representative of what America is (or should be) all about.

He is too good for this. Like kids that have been fed nothing but junk food their whole lives, a lot of America doesn't a appreciate a field green salad when it's placed in front of them. I pray for his safety and continued wisdom everyday.

i disagree. we always want to just quit in the face of adversity. if he's smart (and we all know he's very intelligent) he allows the BS to go in one ear and out the other and continues to do his job and get strength frm his supporters. there are many white ppl that will NEVER give him credit whether he deserves it or not but quitting is NOT the answer. We must learn how to fight until the end whether its a quickie or long drawn out effort...no matter what go the distance!!!

OneChele said...

I agree - this was me being satirical. No one really wants him to go anywhere. We are a much better country with Obama as President for as long as he can be.

Hannington said...

First off, he's BIRACIAL, not black. Second, if he told them to kiss his black ass, he'd be promoting mpore stereptypes in the eyes of the media. Third, Michelle deserved the flack for her trip. It's hypocritical when the president is telling Americans they have to make sacrifices and not go to Vegas, then his wife jets off to Spain on Air Force one to stay at a five-star hotel to confort a friend who lost her father? Um, could she not have done that at the White House? And what kind of mourning trip is it when you're meeting with Spain's dignitaties and closing off beaches to the public for your benefit? The Obamas are folling the mantra of, "Do as I say, not as I do," and people aren't liking that, including me.

OneChele said...

He quantifies himself as black but okay, wouldn't it be fun if he told this to pucker up to his biracial ass? What difference does his race make to this piece?

AGAIN - this is satirical. Lastly, his wife paid for the trip out of her own pocket, it's her fault she's required to take Air Force One and needs security, huh?

I don't recall everyone getting crunk when Bush took 77 vacation trips to Crawford at a cost of $226,072 per trip. That's $17,407,544 in taxpayer money.

Every time you write politics, someone proves your point for you. This man could cure cancer and wipeout world hunger and they'd be mad he did it in a navy suit on a Tuesday. Darn!

FreeBlackMan said...

What's with the labels? Who gives a fuck what his racial combination is? The President told broke asses not to go waste money in Vegas, if folks can afford it, he told them to roll out. The Obamas can afford to do whatever they hell they want.
Walk a mile in Mrs. Obama's shoes before you try telling her how to conduct herself. This woman living in the WH shopping online at J.Crew for her clothes and she can't get a little beach time in?
I'm smelling some bitter haterade. Put it down, son.

*raises hand* I got that you were being sarcastic knowing you are HUGE Obeezy supporter. I remember you going off on your old radio show last year about folks just never being satisfied.
It's the weekend, everybody have a drink (or five).

rozb said...

Hannington, and anybody who wants to know - most of the trip is from their own pockets. It is unfortunate that she has to take WH transportation, but that comes with the job.

People are so full of contradictions. If POTUS and FLOTUS barely left the WH and ate out at Chic-Fil-A, people would be screaming that our own President doesn't have confidence in the economy and won't let his family enjoy lie. Now they bitch and moan because they are living a good life. Mrs. Obama isn't going to stay in a hostel somewhere, nor is she going to be crammed in coach and hitchhiking through her vacay. If she didn't meet a dignitary or three on her trip it would have been a diplomatic disaster. And face it, streets, beaches, and businesses get shut down when they travel. Would you rather someone get too close and hurt the family?

BTW - they are not telling folks to stay home while they travel. In fact, the President has encouraged Americans to get out and see the world, but do so if affordable. The Obamas would have been able to afford the trip whether he was President or not.

People need to get a grip, and stop measuring the President with the same ruler that you use with everyone else. This is one of the costs (or perks) of the office, and every President has done it. Sorry they don't close public beaches for you.

I'm Canadian and love Obama. From an outside perspective, he really is getting a lot done and it's good work, for the most part. I have a few friends, also Canadians, who drove 2,000+ miles to help work in his campaign office. I have friends who actually cried tears of joy when he was elected. He's a damn hero to everyone but the people he's leading and helping. Remember, folks, your media is biased* (ALL media is biased) and has its own agenda - 'if it bleeds, it leads' and things going well doesn't make for dramatic enough news, so don't consider it gospel. Obama's a good man and he's doing a hell of a job. The Titanic metaphor is very apt, but he won't let you sink. There's still plenty of HOPE, kids. Plenty. We see it even if you don't.

*During the Dark Days of the previous administration, I made sure the CNN weekend anchors eating in the commissary heard me tell my pal we were walking through the food court of the American Ministry of Propaganda. First time I ever heard anyone 'harumph!' in real life.

Hating, huh? Seems that's the answer everytime black people express dissenting views of other blacks. All I'm saying is that it makes no sense when you're telling the Ameican people to sacrifice and you're providing no such visual example yourself and jetting off to Spain and staying in fancy hotels. I have no reason to hate, dude. I've had my vacation this week. And lastly, can we PLEASE stop using the "It's Bush's Fault" mantra? Obama's already passed his own legislation, a lot good, a lot bad. I'm sorry if unlike 99% of people here, I actually can analyze Obama without drooling over him.

Hannington said...

"Stop measuring the President with the same ruler that you use with everyone else?" So basically ignore it when he does wrong and not judge him for it then? Sounds like you're saying so here. Why shouldn't I measure him with the same ruler for everyone else? Is Obama a god?

LOVE the Titanic reference!

1) In reality it will take more than 4 years to undo what Baby Bush has done. (Took Clinton 8 years to undo what Daddy Bush did.)
2) I believe Obama expected all this shiggity that he is getting, was prayed up and prepared for it, and that is why he is sooooo damn cool about it all.
3) If I had one political wish it would be that Obama's presidency directly followed Clinton's. (Can you imagine the shape this country would be in?)

But if Obeezy was to step up and tell America to kiss his white African-American ass, he would be so smooth with it that most wouldn't even know they'd been cussed out. LOL

Violet Rose said...

Folks get SOOOO dramatic any time Obeezy is brought up. I flat out stopped talking politics with some people because they get all emotional and polarized.
