Working...

For some smart reason, I committed to 5 freelance articles in the same time frame. Laser beam side-eye to me. So, I'm working. Since I won't be doing the video shout-out tomorrow, enjoy Vanessa singing my theme song right about now:

Next week is Workplace BougieTales Week on BnB. You think my dating life has been interesting? Come around and check out some OneChele work history. In preparation, let's do some information sharing today.
  1. Do you love what you do for a living?
  2. Do you think you have a good work/life balance?
  3. Do you think you'll be in the same field in 5 years?
  4. On scale of 1 - 5, (one being great, five being terrible) how would you rank your boss?
  5. If you were given start-up capital to run your own company, what kind of business would you open?
My answers:
1.Yes, I do.
2. No, I work for myself and it's about 80% work, 20% life. :-(
3. Yes, thankfully. I'll be writing something for somebody somewhere.
4. I work for me, I'll give me a 4. Sometimes I'm a slave driver.
5. I would open a charitable foundation.

What about you? Do share. The floor is yours...

1. Not yet, though I do love my job as mama.
2. No the bathroom needs some love and I haven't been neglecting my basement. I need to focus more on life.
3. I doubt it. Hopefully I will be walking the hall of a hospital on my cute nursing uniform.
4. No boss over here, so I would have to say 3 because of the self loathing and the fact I can be a beotch to myself.
5. I know it would have something to do with the education of children. Probably some type of interactive after school program.

1. Not anymore. Well, I never really loved it. I liked it at first, but the more I've worked here, the less I've liked it. Maybe if I could do what I'm supposed to, I'd still like it.
2. Absolutely not and it's getting even worse. Working late? Working weekends? Consistently? Not ok.
3. Nope. Going to school to change this... to be fair, what I'm doing has nothing to do with my undergrad degree anyway.
4. My boss, boss.... 3. My immediate supervisor? 1. He's horrible at managing. My kinda supervisor (I know, makes no sense, but go with me) 4. I love his hands off approach.
5. I'd open an organization aimed at at-risk youth. We'd be all over the place. Speakers, camps, mentoring, shelters, tutoring (maybe, MAYBE school)

Can't wait for next week.

4.On scale of 1 - 5, (one being great, five being terrible) how would you rank your boss? She is a good boss I would give her a 2
5.If you were given start-up capital to run your own company, what kind of business would you open?
I would want to open a school that teaches finance to children. Our children (African American) need to know how to invest and earn money, save money so if an economic downturn comes again in their future they would not have to experience this.
P.S.- Let me explain my job: I am a Foreclosure Prevention Counselor. I act as a liason with my clients and the lender to help them save their homes, so no I do not like my job, and I pray that I don't have one in 5 years and the economy turns around and people have jobs they won't need me.

1. No & am actively working to change this. I want to be back in school within the next 18 months working towards a degree in what I'd love to be doing.
2. I do. Only because once I leave these double doors @ 5:20, I don't think about anything that happened in the previous 9 hours. Makes life *that* much easier for me.
3. I hope not. I pray not.
4. My real boss is actually kinda dope, I'd give her a 3.75. My interim boss (real boss is on maternity leave) is supernice as well, I'd give her about a 3.5.
5. I'd like to own & operate a literacy center that focuses on teaching both children and adults. Or some sort of youth program that helps promote good all around health (mental, physical, spiritual).

1. No, but even on the most stressful days, I can do it with my eyes closed so it doesn't require much from me.
2. Yep, I stop thinking about work the minute I get in the elevator.
3. I doubt it. I get antsy after 6 - 7 years. By all accounts I should be looking for a change in the next 2 or 3 years.
4. I have 3 bosses. Male = 1, Female #1 = 2, Female #2 who wants Female #1s job = 5
5. I'd create reading clubs in schools in disadvantaged areas. Everyone can't afford to travel or doesn't have parents that take them places, even locally, but there's so much to learn and so many worlds that open to you when you read.

Sue - you gave your good boss a 2? Are you grading on the curve? LOL!

Would you be stunned to know that 72% of people do not work in a field related to their degree? I majored in pre-law/govt. :-/

1) Absolutely not. Nope.
2) I think so. I'm a reporter, but in a small town. But there are times when it's hella busy and other times when news is slow and I don't have to put in long hours.
3) No friggin way. I've dreamed of writing novels since I was 12 years old, and I'm trying to beat down procrastination and start knocking out chapters of my first book NOW lol.
4) She's okay. Sometimes overly demanding but she can be flexible. I'd give her a 2. Now these other supervisors...
5) It would either be an affordable clothing line for plus-sized women (pretty much always been a big girl, and while the clothes have gotten better, more options are always needed!) or an event planning company.

I'm taking the 5th on all these questions. Can't type in the dismal state of affairs here. I do best when I don't think about it. I have, however, been slowly but surely preparing myself to go kick some economic something or other so we shall see. Good news today is it was the first day I saw pints of fresh blueberries at a reasonable price so I bought one. Fresh fruit = Happy me.
