Five Questions, Five Answers with OneChele – Take 3

Okay BougieLand, it's that time again. Thanks as always for your emails and questions. For those of you that want to send in questions for the next round, I'm emailable at onechele@gmail.com. So, for those not aware of the rules: Instead of a full-fledged episode of Ask a Bougie Chick, I just take a sampling of five questions I've been asked recently and answer them. In the spirit of fairness, I printed out the questions, shuffled and picked five at random. I'll share my answers and then I expect each of you, dear readers, to do the same. We love Getting to Know You Day… don't we?! Without further ado:

  • What is the stupidest thing a man trying to holla has ever said to you? "You don't mind that I'm married, do you?" Nuff said.
  • You seem to like a lot of different types of music, what's your favorite genre and your least favorite? R&B/ Neo-Soul is my favorite. Metal is my least favorite although I have some Metallica I rock from time to time. There's nothing like "Enter the Sandman" to get you moving through a work out. Also not too keen on bluegrass though I will listen to some country. When I want to completely mellow, I go old R&B standards – Stevie, Aretha, Donny, Gladys and dem.
  • You've lived in a few cities, which was your favorite? If you could live in any city in the world, where would you live? I loved living in the San Francisco Bay Area. If I could live in any city in the world? Maybe Barcelona. I loved it there: the food, the folks, the architecture. I speak Spanish and I believe in the afternoon siesta. Plus, all my favorite cities have mountains on one side and water on the other. Yes, I know none of that is in Dallas. Moving on…
  • Would you vote for Obama again (if there was a do-over)? And in 2012? As opposed to who? Yes I most certainly would. And yes I most certainly will. People have such short memories. The hell we went through with the Idiot Shrub for 8 years? You can't tell me Obama has done a worse job than that. And quite frankly, I can't think of a smarter candidate from either side.
  • Who is the most famous person you ever met? I don't know, who's more famous: Hillary Clinton or Michael Jordan? One of them. Hillary was nice if a little forced, Jordan was not having a good night.
Alright BougieLand, it's your turn, let me switch them up a little to make it interesting:

1. What's the lamest thing said to you by an aspiring S.O. candidate?
2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good? What genre will you just not listen to?
3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick?
4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick?
5. Name a famous person you would love to meet.

Answer one, all or just say hi - enjoy!

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick?

1. You think you could hook me up with your girl? No -- this wasn't after I dissed him and yes, he sincerely was trying to get with me. Ok, maybe "sincerely" is poor diction, but he was being for real and this was a tactic.

2. Comfort genre is definitely R&B, but I loves me some good alt rock or country. The one genre I absolutely will not do is techno. I always feel a seizure coming on with that.

3. I loved Belize... loved, loved, loved, so it makes the top 3 list, but I have to have mountains around somewhere. I'd pick Denver.

4. I really do think of myself as politically independent and very moderate, so depending on who's running in either party, I could go either way, though generally the people who make it to the Presidential nod for the GOP are so crazy I could never vote for them in good faith. Meanwhile, on the D side... they're such pansies I want to cry. So we're gonna be in trouble if Obama decides not to run in 2012. Michelle Obama for President!

5. Oprah. Really and truly I would love to meet Oprah.

1. What's the lamest thing said to you by an aspiring S.O. candidate? I'm married, but I travel to the area often and we can see each other without a problem.

2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good? What genre will you just not listen to? I listen to everything, but when I'm trying to relax, I listen to Jobim.

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick? Berlin. I've been several times and know the city well and have a good friend who lives there.

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick? No decent choice has presented itself.

5. Name a famous person you would love to meet. She's dead so it won't happen, but Sarah Vaughan.

1. I tend to have selective amnesia with aspiring S.O. candidates and forget what they have said.
2. If I really need comfort, I listen to old instrumental jazz and classical and my all time favorite artist. I can't say who he is since I got teased unmercifully about him in high school and my lips are forever sealed. If somebody turns on heavy metal, I'm gone. Can't do it.
3. I don't know. I don't feel like I've traveled enough to know. I'm at the age where if job permitted, I would like to live within driving distance of my parents and my sister. Actually, I would be happy living with my sister if there was a job for me there and I wouldn't get on her nerves.
4. I have no idea. Obama is still my best pick.
5. I'd have to think about it.

5. Barack OBeezy

Andrea,
He once said if his numbers are in the tank, he might not run and at the rate things are going (second recession might be coming around soon if Europeans do not get it together), he might not run , which will be sad.

1. What's the lamest thing said to you by an aspiring S.O. candidate? I think you broke my toe (dancing)

2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good?
Blues - J. Blackfoot, Clarence Carter, Solomon Burke, BB King.

What genre will you just not listen to? Heavy Metal and grunge makes my brain bleed.

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick? London

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick? Since, Jennifer Granholm is ineligible, probably Bill Richardson(?)

1. Too many lame lines to remember. If pressed I recall something about if we got together "for real" our kids would be beautiful. As you can see h was putting the cart WAY before the horse.

2. I listen to all different types of music so that's a difficult question. At any moment there's rap, R&B, Neo-Soul, Rock, jazz and classic artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington in rotation.

3. I'm from NYC and LOVE it to death... definitely goes on my list. I totally love San Francisco and the Napa Valley region. Miami, Florida is also a show stopper. Of the places I've travelled internationally I could easily live in London. I also need to check out Barcelona and Tuscany.

4. Lawd a mercy...I haven't a clue about a possible 2012 candidate...is Michelle Obama running?

5. I like to keep celebrities at a distance, so they can't shatter the illusion of greatness. I think it would be great to hang out with Andre Leon Talley from Vogue magazine or chef Mario Batali

1. I really can't think of anything right now, probably because I have not had an SO in a loooooong time.

2. Gospel and Broadway show tunes are my favorite and make me feel oh so good to be alive. Don't Rain On My Parade from Funny Girl and Karen Clark Sheard's Favor are my theme music songs!!!! I'm not a big fan of heavy metal (though some songs I like but my picks are few and far between).

3.I really don't know. Sometimes I feel like I am already living in the best city in the world, NYC. Other times, like when it is an especially hot day and it smells like pee everywhere I could go elsewhere. I have always wanted to live in San Francisco and I would not mind going back to Paris and calling it my permanent home, though I would need to brush up on my french something fierce!!!

4. That is a scary thought, I may just have to become an ex-patriot and set up shop in France!!! Viva La Revolution-- or whatever.

5. I know I am probably the only person over 23 who would say this (I'm 30, bout to be 31 July 5th, Happy b-day to me!!!) but I would love, love, love to meet Keri Hilson. I know, I know, I should be saying Maya Angelou, Oprah or Cornel West, but she seems so confident and cool and she's a Georgia Peach just like me!! Dare I say because of her determination in her career, confidence, comfort in her skin she is an inspiration to me (one of anyway)
ok that is all, oh and hi everyone. Sorry I wrote a post Onechele, this will be my only time. I know the rules ;-)

3. Probably Granada (I'm another Spanish speaker and Spain lover). In the States, somewhere in Northern California.

4. Hmm, that's a hard question because the 2008 election was the first time I was able to vote. Let me think...

5. Kristi Yamaguchi, because I love Original Recipe (pre-2000) figure skating.

Does a cruiseship chount as a city? LOL

1) Damn girl, who's been pumpin that @**? o_O
2) Love all kinds of music, easy listening, metal, rock, alternative, country, soul, real hip hop, classical, jazz, chamber music, merengue, salsa, bachata, cumbia, samba, R&B but I refuse to appreciate the non-sense awfulness that is called music...yeah, I'm lookin atchu, BET. "I Need A Sponsor" GTFOHWTBS!!! I don't care what the beat is like....#MusicFail
3) I know it's not very original, but probably someplace off the Forbes Top 10 Places to Live list, but it appears that I may be moving to Liberia at some point in the future...hmmmm. In the States, probably MD or PA. East Coast, baby!
4) The Oprah...because that woman knows how to make a dollar or two and if nothing else, at least she could help clear up the deficit and teach us all how to "Live Your Best Life" ha ha. Truthfully, though, it would boil down to which ever candidate had the record and the good sense God gave him/her. It would definitely be a prayerful decision.
5) That's a toughie....let's see, Mint Condition, Prince, Lenny Kravitz and Questlove at a coffee house unplugged jam session before anyone else arrived. Yeah...that.

2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good? What genre will you just not listen to?
I love jazz, I'm a big Dave Brubeck fan. I have a low tolerance for what I consider to be "pop" music.

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick?
In the US I would pick San Diego; outside of the US I would pick Barcelona.

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick?

5. Name a famous person you would love to meet.

1. " Mmmm, we gonna make some good babies.", on the first date. We ever went out again.
2. 70's and 80's R&B, but some Billie Holiday, Ella, Duke, Coltrane and Parker are great. I can do only so much of the country stuff. I don't think bluegrass is my thing.
3. I love the hustle and bustle of a busy place, so I wouldn't mind living in NY, there is always something to do.
4. I don't know. If Hil decided to give it a go then I am voting for her. If Palin runs, I will vote for anyone against her. Hopefully they will be the lesser evil.
5. If I haven't said it before I would love to meet Oprah. I need to start working on that campaign.

1. What's the lamest thing said to you by an aspiring S.O. candidate? You are so beautiful and I usually don't like dark skinned females. (Just dumb)

2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good? What genre will you just not listen to? Old School R&B and NeoSoul are the top faves but I also love me some Jazz and Hip Hop(Old School)-- and may I add that I wish BET would implode because most of the "music" that gets the most rotation I despise with a passion.

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick? I live there already... San Diego!

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick? No, No, No. I don't want to pretend that! :( I am not a Hillary fan at all. Okay, I know... I would vote for the person who's brain resides in their skull rather than their A$$ (Bush/Palin) or their groin area (Clinton)!

5. Name a famous person you would love to meet. There are so many I would love to meet but the list includes Oprah, The Obamas and Cicely Tyson.

I answered the original questions....

What is the stupidest thing a man trying to holla has ever said to you? It wasn’t said to me but about me. Brotherman looks at my friend and says “Can I dantz wit yo’ date?” Shockingly my friend said yes, we had quite the talk afterwards…

You seem to like a lot of different types of music, what's your favorite genre and your least favorite? R&B / Soul is my favorite. You can keep the heavy metal, please and thank you.

You've lived in a few cities, which was your favorite? If you could live in any city in the world, where would you live? Phoenix is my #1 but Charlotte NC comes in a close second. Where – Buenos Aires. It’s a gorgeous city with great food, great music, great people. A bit of a European flavor to the architecture and a very laid back vibe. If it wasn’t for the fact that the bottom keeps dropping out of their economy.,,

Would you vote for Obama again (if there was a do-over)? And in 2012? Yes and YES! I wish folks would give the man a break, let him govern instead of always having to respond to some nonsense from the press.

Who is the most famous person you ever met? Nelson Mandela. It was quite a moment.

I listen to all types of genre; it depends on my mood. I don't have a genre I won't listen to...

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick?
I prefer the "country-side" to live in so that can be anywhere in the world. :)

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick?
I don't know. I will have to do research.

First, I want to say that you have the readers who I wish I could hang out with in person. You folks are so cool. Love, love the answers to these questions.

1. What's the lamest thing said to you by an aspiring S.O. candidate?
It wasn't what that person said. It was what they did. Sent a friend over at a club to say "My friend would like meet you." Huh?

2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good? What genre will you just not listen to?
I love good music, and that comes in many forms including metal. The genres that put a smile on my face are neo-soul, bossa, 60s/70s classic rock and jazz standards. Listening to my Lalah Hathaway station on Pandora as I type!

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick?
I love my town, but, if I were to move, please let it be on a coast (with warm weather thank you). San Diego?

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick?
That better be because he and Michelle had a deal to switch places!

5. Name a famous person you would love to meet.
Not really into celebs, but there is something about that Emma Thompson....

Comfort: Neo soul and R&B. Will not listen to death metal.

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick?

Barcelona sounds nice, but I wasn't too enamored when I visited (and I don't speak Spanish or Catalan). I do have a fantasy love affair with Paris...

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick?

Hush! Do not speak this evil.

Darn Chele, I actually have to think about these answers, which is probably more of a testament of my current state of mind, b/c usually I have plenty to say.

1. thing said to you by an aspiring S.O. candidate? i honestly can't remember the lame things ppl say to me. but the most outrageous one was when I was in puerto rico. It was along the lines of "we can move to my cousin's basement in the bronx. and we'll have babies. and they will box". I bullshiggity you not!

2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good? What genre will you just not listen to? Well it depends on what i need to feel good about. If i'm really sad, Sade, Cassandra Wilson, and Nina Simone are my go to people. All that pain and sadness makes me feel better. Feel real good music, old school R&B hands down! Hard metal where white ppl are screaming not singing is NO BUENO! everything else is free market, even some country. Lady Antebellum is my ish right now.

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick? As of now, I would say Florence, Italy. But I leave for Barcelona on wednesday, so we'll see how I feel in two weeks. :)

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick? oh shiggity, I don't even know whose on the radar! shame on me! but for fun, let's say Roland Martin or Donna Brazile.

5. Name a famous person you would love to meet. MICHELLE OBAMA. hands down!

Do we have to re-visit the Batman and Robin convo!

2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good? What genre will you just not listen to?
I love the old school cuts and I'm good. I listen to everything from Native American tribal music to Heavy Metal.

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick?
Fez

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick?
No Obama? Ummm, is Maxine Waters interested? No? I don't think anyone has truly made a showing for candidacy potential.

5. Name a famous person you would love to meet.
Umm, no clue. I'm not really into celebs.

1. What's the lamest thing said to you by an aspiring S.O. candidate?
"Are you a MAC or a PC" - He got the side eye for that one.

2. What's your comfort music genre, when you want to feel good? What genre will you just not listen to?
Usually R&B, my favorite song right now is Usher's "There Goes My Baby" makes me feel all warm and tingly. I don't like Hard Rock or Alternative.

3. If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you pick?
I'd say Barcelona. Went there a few years ago and fell in love with the city and the people. It's like a Spanish New York but cleaner, friendlier, and without the hustle and bustle.

4. I'll switch this one up. Let's pretend Obama decides not to run in 2012, who's your pick?
Hmm, I don't know about that one. Maybe Governor Deval Patrick.

5. Name a famous person you would love to meet.
Another good question. I've have to say Martin Luther King, Jr. It would be interesting to have a conversation with him to get into his head.
