A few weeks ago my agent called and asked if I had a book trailer ready for her to mail out. "A what now?" I asked her, completely clueless. Patiently, she explained that like a movie trailer, a book trailer is a short clip to promote your work. She referred me to a company who offered to create one for me for $1500. Um.. no thanks. I surfed around and saw what other authors had out there... I felt safe I could pull off something comparable. So without further ado, here's what I came up with.
Feedback needed: the good, the bad and the ugly. Thanks!

I like it but the audio has a little bit of reverb - not worth re-doing though. Good job!
Happy Sunday evening :-) I just stopped by to see if you and your friends were doing the radio show this evening. I'm thinking not since I don't see the emblem? Anyway, I got treated to watching the book trailer. I've never heard of book trailers. I watched it twice and liked it. The music was mellow but upbeat and the pictures nicely composed. I'm more of a visual person than a writer and I'd say it was visually pleasant to look at. I think I wrote it somewhere here before, but I have read your book and enjoyed it. I was thinking before I read it of passing it on to my Mom, but after reading the sizzling bits I decided not to. My Mom is somebody who never talks about .... well you know. My favorite interactions in the book were with Rome's son and parent. I thought they rang true in the way it is when a book makes you want to meet the characters. That's my two cents worth and since I see there is no radio show to listen to, I'm off to listen to an audio book. Good luck :-)
I like it. Never seen one before but now it kinda makes me want to check out the book... get it worked ;-)
It that YOUR voice? *wiping drool from side of mouth* Yeah that's ni-ice... very, very nice. Trailer works too. ;-)
Thanks Sarah, we've put the FTSR show on hiatus but stay tuned. ;-)
I likes as well..audio could have been a bit louder though.
Sweet! LOVE it! I hadn't heard of book trailers, either. Nice concept!
Get Samuel L. Jackson to do it... now that would be bad@ss
P.S. when is this thing going to be at Barnes and Nobles???
Supposedly, it's there. Just finished fighting with my publisher and the B&N rep. Click here and see if it's in a store near you. If not, let me know.
I love this. Way better than a bunch I have seen.
Yes, my voice. Thanks?
My only concern is that the audio sounds quite muffled/not mic'ed...
I do believe that re-recording it would help considerably as far as the overall quality of the trailer is concerned.
I think that your speaking voice is pleasant and has good tonal quality, and that your annunciation is clear - I just think that these traits could be enhanced if it was a little less muffled.
Good luck =]
Not bad. Fix the audio and you'll have something there. All those stock images reminded me of a gag I saw on Family Guy last night.
Hey Chele, this is good for your first attempt. You have a nice voice.
By the way, you have Brenda Jackson to thank for the concept of book trailers. Ms. Author-Marketing-Extraordinaire is the first (to my knowledge) to use book trailers. In hers, she has people act out an entire scene from her book. Cool, huh?
I hope you paid Chante Moore her publishing rights for "Wey U". :)
Best of luck on your book/trailer!
Hey Chele,
Nice job. I second Jara re: use of copyrighted material. If you don't have permission to use...Big no-no. All of your book profits will go to Babyface. We don't want that! :) There are a lot of public domain i.e. ROYALTY FREE songs out there that will give same bump to your trailer. Congrats and Good luck!
Not gonna beat Richard.
What they said...
But er'body does need to go pick up the book. #amen.
Updating all of the audio - thanks all!
Co-sign with all the positivity.
@ASmith - good lookin' out, everyone should go buy the book!
BTW - if you have purchased the book, please go and write reviews on bn.com, Amazon and the like! Reviews will help the cause....
