I'm not going to do in depth analysis of what was said because you can get that on another site. In a nutshell, he stepped up to the podium and said, "I got this. Don't know why ya'll tripping. And by the way Senate, you holding us back. Grow a pair and get to work. Shout out to my fine wife. Any questions? America rocks. Good night ya'll." Here the speech in its entirety:

But here's what I took from the speech:
- His job sucks. Seriously, better him then me. I mean how do you sleep well at night with the weight of the entire free world on your shoulders? He addressed jobs, wars, oil, climate change, don't-ask-don't-tell, equal pay, bi-partisanism, big government, Wall Street and health care all in the same speech. I was exhausted just listening to him.
- He's still the smartest guy in the room. And the most likable. Republicans who didn't even want to acknowledge his presence in the chamber were jumping to their feet and clapping near the end. This guy knows how to give a speech, sell an idea and rally the troops. Now we await (in giddy anticipation) his plans coming to fruition.
- I believe he's doing the best he can with the hand he was dealt. He reminded us of the crap-bag handed to him when he walked in the door. And clearly, I'm biased but I believe he genuinely wants to make things better. Whether he will be allowed to do so with all the partisan bullshiggity getting tossed is another question altogether.
- Michelle Obama is bad. Bad like good. Really, really good. SO far there is nothing about her I don't like. That mulberry dress was slamming. Her initiative to end childhood obesity is a noble cause that everyone can get behind. And yes, I love the fact that he paused in the middle of his speech to shout out the wife. As a friend of mine texted me, "She really classes up the joint."
- I always wish we could have sideline-style commentary. How great would it be to have a roving reporter up and down the aisles with a portable mike, "Tell us, Uptight Republican dude, how does it feel to have your ass handed to you on national TV?"

A few things that confused me: Why did Nancy Pelosi look like she was wearing her Easter suit? Why didn't Roland Burris get his skating-into-Congress-ass up and clap for the President? Why don't the Republicans EVER have a viable response? And what is wrong with Chris Matthews, perennial jack-ass at MSNBC for saying "he forgot Obama was black." For real though?

Great post, as always. I'm about to watch it again. I only heard about 1/3 of it through the hooping and hollering around me last night. You would think we were watching a FOOTBALL game. ;-)

What I liked about the speech is that he bitch slapped EVERYBODY on the room, nobody was left out. It's about to get real interesting. Good post btw.
It was a great speech as I expected from President Obama, but haven't we seen this movie before? Some issue of debate goes down in Washington. The President gets criticized for how he does or doesn't handle it. He comes out and makes a speech and most of us feel better about it until the next big issue occurs. His words will always be great, but they will only be words until they are followed with action. Action that congress doesn't seem to want to take.

My president did that. Overall I was very pleased with what was said and happy that he got in EVERYBODY'S behind. I wouldn't have been mad if he did a little more poking at the Dems because they are unnecessarily extra lame these days.
True - the words are only effective if he can back them up. I really hope he can.
Call 'em out Rock Rock. Stop running for re-election constantly and do the job people voted for you to come here & do! Stop voting things down just because it came from the other side of the aisle. And if you must, then offer an alternative plan/bill. "We were sent here to serve our citizens, not our ambitions." It's not about your ego!
I loved when he said he would be meeting regularly with both sides and added - I'm sure you're looking forward to that. He laughed and smiled but was like - deal with it.
Prez went in. Repubs looked stupid - nothing new there.
I think the Daily Show said it best: "Obama is not a 'magic negro' that sprinkles fairy dust to solve all." he can't do it by himself. My favorite 3hree parts of the speech include calling out the Supreme Court's decision on corporate $$ in campaigns, telling the Dem's { in essence} to buck up & get ish done 'cause they still have a hefty majority, and telling the Repub's that insisting a super majority is needed for everything is not ok ... start taking responsibility outside of just saying no. If you have an idea let's get er' done.
Is it just me or were you expecting Jay-Z & A. Keys to come out with a revised version of New York saying "This is Amerika ... melting pot where dreams are made of!"

That is classic - In the middle of his speech last night I thought - WOW his job sucks. I mean seriously. I thought I had to multi-task on my gig. Another thing I'll cosign - the wife is fine. Here's hoping Congress gets off it's collective ass to back up his words.
I thought it was a good speech. I watched very early this morning on the internet. If I were to buy into the things I read, I would have expected a beat-down, weary, and timid man. But he looked himself and relatively cheerful and self-confident. I heard him say enough that I know he is still aware of what is what. I was satisfied and now I can go back to dealing with my own stuff and nonsense. It may be a Heard it All Before situation, but sometimes you need to know that the person still gets it.
So I was skeptical thinking - it's just a speech - how effective could it be. Pretty damn is the answer. I kept thinking about Chris Rock's movie Head of State where they kept saying "Thought I told you that we won't stop, thought I told you that we won't stop!"
Definitely needed a soundtrack :-)
It was nice to get a break from all the negativity we've been hearing lately. I thought he did a great job of mixing truth, lecture, preaching and hope in his message. For anyone who has forgotten - it was this type of defined optimism that prompted us to vote for him. Prayerful he can get it done

I loved the speech I just wish I believed he'll get the backing he needs to get it all done. Otherwise, he is about to fire off some serious Executive Orders and you know how that will go over.

I was hoping that Americans watching would hear more than the can of whoop ass that he opened (and he did). The most important parts of the speech was informing AMERICANS about what has already been done and what is being done. i.e. ACTIONS. But it seems people are, once again, only focusing on the dramatic parts. To quote the bouge, le sigh.
I think a lot more Americans already thought he was doing something than the polls showed but it was smart of him to break it down like that. Classy checklist. "done" "working on it" "up next"
God bless him for trying that bipartisan crap, he's going to have to get some enforcers in there to roll over people. The Republican strategy is simply to make him look bad by any means necessary, they don't even care how many constituents they hurt as long as they can bring him down.
