- Dear haters, my President remains the cool kid in the room. He is attempting to bring healthcare to every citizen in the nation while fighting two wars and attempted to repair the economic bag of crapola he inherited. He is a double-degreed rock star currently running the world's greatest superpower and collecting prizes only allotted to three other sitting Presidents in history. What have you done for me lately?
President Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize today with class, grace and a speech that even his critics refer to as "motivating." The newest Nobel Laureate acknowledged his humility at being chosen while delivering a conciset defense of war and promising to use the prize to "reach for the world that ought to be." Regardless of what you think of his job as President, you have to acknowledge the brilliance, the talent and the charisma. Here's a clip from NBC:
- Dear Conspiracy theorists (and Sarah Palin), before you come at me with some "climate change is a hustle" nonsense, I invite to you come down to Dallas where with the wind chill it was 18° this morning. In Texas, today. It snowed twice last week. In Dallas. Okay? Granted, I don't know all I could about greenhouse gasses and CO2 emissions, but even I know that Minnesota weather should not migrate to Texas for more than 2 days in the middle of January. Nor should we have had 18 straights days of temperatures over 100° this summer.
Apparently there were some e-mails disclosed from the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia basically claiming that data from the Institute had been manipulated to further the global warming agenda. Of course, now it's revealed that the emails were over 10 years old and several other data-gathering institutions (including NASA) corroborate the overall theory that the earth's core is heating up and providing us with crazy-ass weather phenomenon. Al Gore addresses all of this in an interview with Slate Magazine.

I got two more stories in the stack today about how black unemployment is through the roof. Black unemployment is terrible. The black frame of mind is terrible, they're depressed, they're down -- Obama's not doing anything for 'em. How is that hoax and change workin' for ya? They're all livid. I mean, they thought there were gonna be an exact 180-degree economic reversal and it's done nothing but get bad for everybody, but they're especially upset about it because they look at him as one of them, and now they feel abandoned. And I'm sure Tiger Woods' choice of females not helping 'em out with their attitudes there either.
- Okay, one other quick thing. I know I said I wasn't going to mention Tiger Woods any more but some trifling strumpet (who sold his voicemails and text messages) went on TV yesterday to say she didn't know Tiger was married because he never mentioned a wife. o__O Um… I'm going to have to set aside the mantle of sisterhood here and say – Heffa, I call BULLSHIGGITTY. He's Tiger MF-ing Woods. Are you SERIOUSLY trying to act like you didn't know who he was? Come on, now. Barack doesn't run around SAYING he's the President but I bet you know he is. GTFOH with all that.

Yeah for the Prez. It was a great speech, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's not that I think he can do no wrong, but I definitely think he deserves more credit for what he's trying to do.

My rant of the day - I HATE cold weather.
I'm a closet conspiracy theorist my own self, however, the climate change is real. The next battle is whether this is cyclical or human-induced. The people prattling about it being fake are either slow, dumb, or both.

I'm actually fairly upset that the unemployment rate among black men is 34.5%. That is Depression-era! Post-racial my non-bi-racial @ss! I understand we may not have the requisite skill set, or been in jail, had a drug charge, etc., but that's insane.
Let's run some numbers. There are 33M black people. Let's assume half are men so 16.5M. So approximately 1/3 of that 16.5M is unemployed, which is 5.5M. Basically 5 and one half MILLION black men are unemployable? MF PLEASE!

I'm sorry, but at a cost of $30 billion for 18 months - and that's just the cost per man and not the money to be spent on infrastructure for the country with the 4th lowest GDP - when unemployment in Black America is currently at catastrophic levels, I could give a rats ass about class, grace, or a Nobel; Peace Prize. As for the speech? It was delivered well and chock full of Orwellian double-speak designed specifically to get the effect it is currently getting. But hey, the people who pay attention are well aware that this is a foolish move on his part especially when troops will be on the ground well past the exit date of July 2011 as he so eloquently told America last week. The Pentagon, the defense secretary, and the secretary of state has already confirmed this to be true.
I liked the speech as well and hope he can back it up with action. He is a brilliant orator but has a ridiculous amount of clean up to do worldwide.

Obama is DAT dude. People who know they can never be him throw shade. It was a great source of pride to watch his speech this morning. If he does nothing else, he has forever killed the "ugly American" "Stupid Black Man" stereotypes. For that, I can't be mad at him. I don't agree with all his policies but I didn't expect to.

MS. V - I heartily agree with your rant. I had to break it down to the chil-lins this year - it's not that kind of party. Don't ask me for a $200 Wii and $200 worth of games when you can barely keep a room clean or push a vacuum? One big gift for all of them to share and one that means something to each of them personally. Beyond that - they need to pray that Grandma and the Aunties hook them up.

All due respect to some of your commenters but the point of the Prize is to raise the profile of the winner and allow them to continue to put their ideas and philosophies into action, I see no downside to him getting the prize and accepting it with class. The better he does, the better America looks.

As a scientist by training and temperament, I get really irritated when I hear folks dismissing global warming based on nothing other than that they don't want it to be true. It doesn't work that way. I'm not a climatologist, but I understand the scientific method behind the data analysis and modeling. The climate models are complex and I'm sure there are still aspects that are not understood, but this doesn't mean that you can throw the whole thing out just because every single detail isn't understood. In fact, long term trends are easier to deal with than short term ones because there is more data.
I've been ignoring Rush since the Reagan era when I first heard about him. He makes his living trying to rile people up. I refuse to pay attention to people like that. Life is too short.
I think the President is doing a good job considering all the problems he is having to deal with.
And shoot, it is cold here! I was supposed to go somewhere today and only went 2 miles before I turned around and came home. In those 2 miles, I saw 3 accidents. No Thanks. My car and I do not wish to get banged up today. I hope everybody is keeping warm and safe.

I often think it must be really hard to be a parent these days not the least because of all these things children and adults alike think they absolutely must have. The price of video game hardware and games is tragic. My last boyfriend, a grown kid, was a video game and movie junkie and he was in a constant state of disappointment at all the games and movies he couldn't buy.
People should consider something when it comes to our President and being overly critical. The first thing is that he DIDN'T create this mess, he inherited and it will be a while before it's cleaned up. Just as it takes a team and A LOT of man hours to clean up the houses on hoarders, this too will not be an overnight success. As a supporter, not a blind follower of President Obama, I wish people would realize that by criticizing him, and the way he breathes at times, only gives ammunition to the right and opens ourselves up to lose seats in 2010 and possibly the presidency in 2012. Give the man time, he's not Jesus Christ, just a man trying to make a change. I am proud of him and his still wanting the job after Curious George stamped the country 6 additional feet into it's grave last year.
As for the drugster (thanks Ed) it's only a matter of time before he's found unconscious in his home. Not that I'm hoping for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he were off the wagon...again! Conspiracy theory has become a term for kooky dot-connecting of unrelated events...but the REAL definition of conspiracy theory is that 2 or more people conspired to set an event in motion.
