Bougie TV Watch: Those Damn CSIs

Question – Is it at all possible that they put a vaporized form of crack into the CSI broadcasts? I swear those shows are more addictive than Krispy Kremes. I did not buy into the whole CSI phenomenon when they first rolled out. In fact, I blame Bougie Sis for this one. As we travelled around, hotels seem to always offer A&E as a standard in-house channel. She kept turning on CSI Miami re-runs. One day when it was raining outside, we were in the room and watched about four hours of CSI Miami back to back. That was all it took. Suddenly, I had to know how Horatio ended up married to Delko's sister. I set my DVR to record every episode of CSI Miami no matter what channel it came on. Now just as I was catching up on that, they threw me a curve: Crossover episode.

Yes, Miami criminals travel to New York and all of I sudden I'm sucked into another CSI spin-off. David Caruso's Horatio Caine and Gary Sinise's Mac Taylor have perfected the tight-lipped steely-eyed glare that cause many a perp to confess their sins. Fine, I'll keep up with Miami and New York but… what? They were killing off Gary Dourdan's character on CSI? Well I had to check that out. Then the addition of Laurence Fishbourne as Dr. Raymond Langston was something I felt compelled to watch.

Working from home during the day, your quality TV choices are limited. Let me say that there is some form of CSI playing on some channel almost every hour of the day. I finally got to the point where I had to cut back. No civilian needs that much forensic knowledge. When I caught myself pausing while cleaning the bathroom mirror to check out the ridge details on the fingerprints… enough was enough. I've scaled back to just CSI Miami.

The thing is… these are actually pretty well written shows. As you may know, my requirements for regularly watching a TV show are as follows: there has to be a person of color in the cast, I need to be able to watch without having the plot figured out before the first commercial break, and it has to entertain me in some way. Sounds easy enough but it's actually hard to find. Forensics overload aside, the CSIs fit my TV criteria. And even if was ready to walk away from them all, it would have to wait until after this week. Yes, they got me again: A three-city crossover trilogy tying together Miami, New York and Vegas in a case involving truckers and black market organ harvesting. Come on- who can resist?

But after this, I quit. Really I do. Just one more week and I'm giving it all up. Next up on my TV rehab: learning to give up hope that Grey's Anatomy will ever be great again.

Any TV shows you just need to give up? Am I right about the addictive quality of the CSIs?

I was just talking to BougieSis about this yesterday how many of the better TV shows have seasoned movie actors to give them weight.

Girl - you better not say nothing bad about Mr. Sunglasses. I stans for Lt. Caine - LOL. Now I'm hooked on those NCIS two. TV is just one big alphabet soup. CSI NCIS SVU

CSI purist, I only like the original in Vegas. Not sure about the new vibe with Fishburne without Grissom or Gary Dourdan's character, the cast is less interwoven. I think it's about run it's course

Hell yes they are addicitive and then you start watching to see if you can figure it out. I kinda thought Miami jumped the shark last year with Diddy's guest appearance. And how many times could Delko get shot?

I only like New York, but I've been a Gary Sinise fan from way way back. Have you noticed the trend of movie actors coming to TV?

I'm a sucker for shows like "Life After..." and "UnSung" (TVOne has the market on lock right there).

However, CSI IS addictive, as is Criminal Minds (which A&E is good for putting on all day) amen and amen.

Oh and me and Greys -- talk about heart break. Utter heart break.

Yes A&E got me with the Criminal Minds for a little while and then it got darker than normal and I had to step away. Only so much serial killing you can watch!

They got me too. And I was determined not to like or watch them. But (like you) sitting in hotel rooms you ahve either A&E or TNT and I was all Law & Order'd out. The first one I ever saw was the Manhattan flight when Horatio goes to NYC. And yes, I'll say a moment of silence for Delko. Did you hear he'll be on Ugly Betty?

I'm not a CSI fan, however I LOVE ME SOME Law & Order all 3 of them. Friends and fam know not to call me on Wednesday at 9 or Friday at 8. If you are bleeding and in dire need of anything call 911 during those hours. ;-) I am so serious though. I am a fan of all things dealing with the criminal mind. I also enjoy American Justice and Cold Case Files (thanks A&E), along with Power Privilege and Justice and Forensic Files (thanks TruTv formally known as Court TV). There are more but you get my drift. My lovely sister and hubby say I watch too much of it. I say I'm keeping my psycho skills honed. I don't know how I'm leaving here, but I refuse to go out life a Saturday Lifetime movie. ;-) Like they say "It's not reality, it actuality."

On second thought maybe I do have an addiction...

Don't get me start on Grey's, every Thursday I watch and think - well maybe next week will be better. Yet it is not!

Well color me addicted because I DVR all the CSIs, the NCISs and the L&O's... all of em!

I was keeping my TruTV habit on the low-low. But many a night have I spent with Forensic Files. Power, Privilege and Justice does a marathon once a month and yes, I will watch three or four of those in a row. I also used to love City Confidential narrated by the late, great Paul Winfield.

Husband hates CSI Miami though he admits it is one the prettiest shows to watch in HD. (yes, he's a cinematography geek) Anyway, this results in my huddling down in the basement with my laptop catching up online. I'm a few episodes behind so right now I'm hot that Delko is gone.

I love me some City Confidential too. On any given day where I am home alone, all televisions are on something related to crime. That is unless there is a Jefferson's, Good Times or Sanford and Son marathon on TvLand. :-)

I agree with all of this! OG Vegas CSI for me, been a fan since the beginning! I sometimes watch the Miami reruns, but I'm not really into it! and I don't watch NY at all!

I love the CSI shows. I don't actually watch CSI:Miami b/c Caruso drives me nuts, but visually, it's the most stunning show. The color saturation is fantastic. I save CSI:Miami for when I am home sick for a couple of days and then I download a whole bunch and watch a marathon. Emily Proctor is awesome, but not enough to draw me in every week. And while I loved Cibrian in Third Watch, all the mess with his home life has totally turned me off of seeing him on tv. (I'm sure when I am home with the flu in February, I will change my mind, though) CSI Vegas nearly lost me when Warwick died. It seemed that they veered off into ridiculous land with a CSI endangered in every finale. But Grissom leaving (though I absolutely adore Petersen) and Fishburne joining totally revved up the show. I though last season was absolutely superb! CSI:NY, I love Sinise and Harper and Cahill and Kanakeredes and Belknap and the guy who plays Sid, but they're kind of losing me this season. I busted out laughing when Messer rolled up in a wheelchair that first episode. And what have they done to Adam? His character is a mess right now!
But, oh, I love these shows. Thanks so much for letting me getting out there! :)

I've been a Law & Order girl since I was 12 or 13, I live for some SVU, oh but then I learned about CSI and fell in love with CSI and CSI Miami, something about that Horatio Caine, those glasses and that voice just scream cool to me. I stopped watching CSI Vegas when they killed my boy off, I loved me some Dourdan, and then they took away Grisom, I haven't watched since. I did just start watching CSI NY and I must say I like it. My S.O. can't stand my love for Law, Suspense, Crime type television but he is a SciFi guy so he's on a different planet anyway, lol. DVR is my best friend, because I can catch all my lovely alphabet soup shows and spend a day in paradise watching them, LOL.

if you can explain that season opener with Stella and Adam, I'd be eternally grateful... I was confused!
