Well we are halfway through the NFL season and I have held off talking football for this long because I understand that not everyone loves sports talk like I do. However, I think it's time for a few quick observations. Here we go:
- WTF Tom Cable? First all, your team (Oakland Raiders) is completely inconsistent. And it's stacked with young talent. I understand Al's elevator dosen't go all the way to the top but c'mon son. Is this the team that stunned the Eagles or stunk it up against the Jets? Hint: Your QB needs a mentor… badly. Some Qbs have pocket presence and inherent field vision, he does not and needs to be taught. As for you Mr. Cable, what up with the slapping of females? Please respond (swiftly):
- VY Sighting! Oh it did my Texas heart good to see Vince Young stride out on that field yesterday and lay a smackdown on somebody. He threw, he ran, he juked, he LED. And not once did he say, "How ya like me now?" (Which I would have done, repeatedly) How he's matured emotionally is still yet to be determined but his football skill should never have been in doubt. As the sportscasters like to say – when you have a thoroughbred… let him run free. Can anyone say that Tennessee looked better at any time this season? Think on it... I'll wait.
- Speaking of which – hello Philly? What is this bullshiggity role you have crafted for Mike Vick? What is the point of bringing him in on gadget plays or to throw one pass on third down? You are completely underutilizing him. Donovan is your number one guy, fine. Then let Vick stand over there and hold the clipboard, don't get us all excited that you are going to use his powers for good. This dude is only 29 ya'll, he has plenty of great NFL years ahead. 6'0", 215… Is that Oakland calling?
- Dear Dallas Cowboys – please stop celebrating. You beat down SEATTLE yesterday. Yes you beat Atlanta but you needed OT to beat Kansas City, you squeaked by Tampa Bay, you let the Giants punk you in your own house and you still have not proven your ability to win a game in December and/or win a playoff game. I'm hitting ya'll with the laser beam side-eye until I see evidence of winter wonderland wins. Yeah Romo, I'm looking at you. Roy Williams, you getting a piece of the side-eye too.
It could be worse, I could be a Rams, Lions or Redskins fan. Any football observations to share?

Or you could be a Giants fan, watching the implosion... it's not pretty.
Hello - Arizona fan here - we are confused! Where did our playoff team go?
While I am a Rams fan by default, and should have been celebrating their first win since October 2008, I was still basking in the glow of the spanking Illinois laid on Michigan. Yeah, I know, Illinois has had a pretty craptastic season like the Rams, but I hate Michigan so their victory was much more worthy to be celebrated.
^5 on the Michigan smackdown. Ohio State alum here. I am now trapped in Tampa surrounded by these Florida teams. First loyalty to the Niners who are interesting these days. Even when they lose, they are giving it their all so you can't be too mad about it.
Arizona has abandoned the run game for some unknown reason. Too much pressure on Warner to carry the team.
I'm in a quandry this year. Minnesota fan but hate Brett Favre - it's very hard to reconcile.
Bears fan. Not sure which team will show up every sunday but I'm hanging in. Love Indy - Peyton rocks.
Peyton is my fantasy QB - LOVE him.
Have you noticed how the sports media just LOVE Brett, he can do no wrong. Over him and the jock-riding
speaking of never knowing what you'll get - Carolina fan here. Good Jake, bad Jake? No defense, all defense? It's like watching jekyll and hyde in cleats
I didn't watch the Titans game because as a Titans fan, they were hurting my heart and I needed a break. Damn, damn, damn is all I can say.
Ms. Bougie, your observations are on point, young grasshoppa.
A few things: The QB formerly known as Jake Delhomme. Stick a fork in him, he's done.
For all the fawning over Fav-rah, he brings his A game....even at 40 years old.
Saints cuttin through the NFC like they not even there. Brees=MVP?
Colts the ugliest lookin undefeated team in the league. They just find a way to win games.
Baltimore won the game they needed to win to stop the bleeding.
I'm also not sold on the Cowboys, they should have diabetes from all those cupcakes they keep gettin.
Why am I not surprised you play Fantasy Football?
Drew Brees FTW and MVP all the way definitely. Denver got exposed yesterday.
I was just saying that to some people last night - the whole thing seems a little hinky.
That Tom Cable story stinks high hell. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something Al cooked up to fire him early and move the team to LA
Oh and I hate Denver.
West Coast guy so Chargers, Raiders, Niners - go with Chargers more often since they've been a little more consistent but they came real close to losing to Oakland yesterday. You are dead on about Jamarcus Russell - he needs to marinate a little bit more. Someone needs to get his the seasoning and secret sauce. He looks lost as hell. As for Diego - LT is about done, they need to upgrade their receivers and Rivers is only as good as his protection. Niners get love just based on Singletary
Cautiously optimistic about my Boyz. But as you say, I'll wait until December
Did you hear they cut Chris Chambers today. Wow.
datdudeincali,
Hate is such an awful word.... LoL!
datdudeincali,
I have to agree LT {LaDainian Tomlinson} is not playing at the level that he once was. But then the Chargers have a powerful WR in Vincent Jackson {#83} who's coming up with the big plays. I'm still betting on the Chargers making to the playoffs and winning the Division.
Okay, three of my boys told me I had to check out this blog - I like it. Saints all the way! Reggie starting to look like he should, Shockey coming into play, Brees an lock for MVP (though they'll probably give it to Peyton or the Golden Boy Brady), Colston ballin' and the defense actually shutting folks down a little bit. Who dat!
Welcome Louisiana neighbor. I would like to see the Saints continue to do well (just not better than the Boyz)
Kyle,
I hate to see anyone unemployed. But C. Chambers playing level has been subpar all season in my opinion. The go-to WR's for the Chargers have been V. Jackson and Malcolm Floyd.
No Dolphins love? They are bringing it!
...and be beatin up on her sibs in FF. She's sitting pretty at #1, again (sigh)
Speak football truth sis!
Now, could someone hit Brett Favre? It seems odd to me that everyone has forgotten once he gets knocked down a few times, he is totally off his game. Packers let him go untouched.
As you say, the Boyz must make it with some wins in the New Year, oh and in the Playoffs before any celebrating can occur.
With Drew Brees as my FF QB, I must say - Go Saints!
Wow - is there a good way to take that? Actually, Sis and I are the only females. The rest of the league is male... and I'm still killing 'em! Killing. Them. LOL.
what?! don't take this the wrong way - are ya'll playing with dudes or is it an all chick league?
Dude - respect the FF skills. The two of us have been watching football since, well day one! ... and don't think the guys in our league aren't ... well, shall we say peeved that OneChele continues to bring the beatdown!
Apologies to the Sisters Bouge... LOL
I like both Atlanta and New Orleans so I'm having a tough night. Admittedly, I liked ATL more with Vick. OneChele I agree with you that they need to find a bigger role for him.
