Bougie Concert Review: Chrisette, Common and Maxwell

Today was big doings down here in Big D. Oprah came to town, visted the state fair and hosted the local evening news. (First time I watched local new in four years). U2 was in town. I had a date that didn't suck (finally) and the Maxwell tour came to town. I won't go into a ton of detail except to say the following:

Chrisette Michele is far more talented than you think. Her vocal range and ability to sell a song live came as an unexpected and welcome treat. Common must do ab crunches in his sleep. He's lyrically gifted, a showman and did I mention he was fine? Maxwell has redeemed himself. This was not the same guy I saw years ago just holding the mic out and letting the concert happen around him. He engaged the audience, sang his ass off and somewhere into his third song the girl I was seated next to and I had to start fanning ourselves. He was bringing the hotness. Favorite part of the concert was when he held the microphone out to a young blonde chick and she was so flustered all she could say was, "I follow you on Twitter!" He responded, "Thank you, baby." It was classic 2009.

I give this concert the rare and never before seen rating of FIVE pumps (out of five). If he comes through your town or anywhere close by, go see the show. It was totally worth the price of admission.

I've heard this repeatedly about his show and I was prepared (more than prepared, actually) to fork over whatever I had to to see him in concert, but then I had to be out of town the weekend he was here! AGH!!!

I caught this show a few weeks back here in NYC, and yes, Maxwell brought the Hotness!  He had women throwing their undies on stage and falling out.  He seduced the hell out of the females in the audience. I know there were a few men in the crowd but why?  After Maxwell started crooning, they all disappeared.  Wives forgot about their husbands.  Girlfriends were knocking down their boyfriends to get a better look at Maxwell on stage.  Maxwell's voice is pure sex and he looked damn good in his form-fitting black suit.

Maxwell alone was worth the price of admission, but Crisette Michelle (she can blow) and Common were wonderful added treats.  I highly recommend this show.

Saw them here in St. Louis on Friday. Loved Chrisette, could have used an hour or two more of Common, thought Maxwell was ok.  The crowd wasn't really into his new songs and he didn't perform "This Woman's Work", which I understand he did in other cities.  Overall, loved the show.

I'm going to catch this at the Hollywood Bowl Friday night. Sounds like it will be worth it.

Wow would have loved to see this concert! I'm a firm believer in order to enjoy any concert you must own all the albums by the performer. If not there is no way you are going to enjoy it. You won't know the songs and it will take a too much time to try to connect to the material. You are so much more able to enjoy when you have heard the all albums (do people still say albums??) on repeat atleast 12 times!!! LOL

Maxwell is on point, I agree with all that he does. He is this generation's equivalent of putting on some Marvin Gaye. Ladies melt, panties disappear

can always count on you to keep it classy... BTW - there is no equivalent for Marvin Gaye, son.

Just got in from his stop in Houston and I have to say baby boy has come a LONG WAY!! I saw him back in 2001 and boy do the years make a difference! He was that hawt fiyah!!

And Common...*drools and swoons*..I am going to have to get some of his back catalog as I only own his last 2 CDs.

I missed Chrisette but she was in Houston in May 2009 so I saw her then, She can blow, for real.

All in all, good show and worth the high ass ticket price. I think they forgot we in a recession.
